C. Jones Congratulations to Cann's Mill On The Opening Of Your New Elevator Make Pellets, Mix Molasses ./Cann’s pioneerd in the field of pellet feeding, and this has played no small part in the de velopment of the business at Ex eter. The firm installed the first pellet mill in this section of West ern Ontario in 1948, a time when the demand for pelletted feed was just starting. Cann’s were quick to see the advantages of this" type of chow.. Grain and concentrates are pres sed together into a small cap sule which cannot be blown a- way in outdoor feeding. Waste is reduced because the pellet isn’t lost like fine grain particles. <The birds cannot separate the con tents of the pellet vMiilq in ordi nary. feeding they will pick out the corn or wheat and avoid eat ing the vital concentrates. The demand for pellets has grown steadily and this year the firm had to install bins to keep a sufficient supply on hand. Local poultry feeders are purchasing pellets by bulk truckload. The volume exceeds 15 tons a week of bulk deliver/. Mix Molasses Into Feed 'Another- feed service intro duced by Cann’s Mill Ltd. is mo lasses mixing, made possible through the puTcha-se of new equipment in 1954. This machine mixes and blends heated molasses with all types of livestock feeds. The hot mo lasses is pumped into the mixer and sprayed into the feed. -Although in service only a re latively short time, the mixer is proving popular with district feeders. It makes it possible for farmers to avoid feeding molas ses in barrels which are difficult to handle, messy and awkward in the* cold weather when the molasses hardens.•The Exeter mill also has * a grain cleaner and panogen treat ing machine besides large mixing, grinding and rolling equipment. The staff includes Art Frayne, feed foreman; Frank Wildfong, seed cleaner and pellet mill oper ator; Stewart Dykstra, grinder operator; Glenn Deichert, mixer operator; 'Ed Wurm and Ernie Perry, truckers; Paul Dykeman, salesman, Mrs. Don Gaiser and Rena Murray stenographers. Purina has its own highly developed research system including analytical, biological and pathalogical laboratories which have been steadily at work on im provement of Purina Chows and Sanitation Products and their results to the feeder.
