Insurance 'Can't STOP' Fires
But It Will Pay Losses

house and its contents would be PULLY protected by Eire Insurance.
Ask yourself this question: "Will tbdinsurance on rily property cover today's
increased values sancl replacement costs?" Even though your insurance may
have seemed adequate a 'year ago, you'll do well to'review it ,Again in the
light of higher costs, additional furniture, clothes) equipment,. etc. Consult

don't give a hoot if their kide

But they are only the worst of
the six home firebugs who start
over 85 per cent of our h ome
fires, according to 'Chief Ford.
Here's how be would grade the
Other five on the basis ef atudieS
of home fire eauses:
Booby prize No, 2 goes to the
chap who doesn't inspect, clean
and repair his heating 'system
and chimney at least once e year•
and thereby eauees one of every
four home fires.
No. 3 is the electrical wizard—
one of every eight homes that
burn—who dotes on frayed cords,
overloaded circuits, misuses ap-
pliances •and thinks 15 -ampere
safety fuses ere for sissies.
Then there are the two guys
in or e likely ,gals-rsto, between
them, manage to start one of
every ten house fires; the kitchen
firebug has a greasy stove, leaves
unwatched burners going to Ig-
iiite •and other ellaY
burning items piled too near the
open flames; her sister is the
ly who quickens fires with kero-
sene,. dry cleans with gaaoline
and keeps these Very fluids in
her home in nice breakable !bot-
tles, leaky cans, etc.
Home firebug No. 6 performs
his trick with hot ashes end vials
puts them fresh ,from the stove
or furnace into 'wooden and card-
board Containers, Or •dumps them
on the floor next to wooden walls,
old newspapers and rubbish and
thus accounts for one of every 11
home fires.
How do you stop these home
firebugs? Eire Chief Ford has
title Fire +Prevention Week ad-
vice:
"One of the best ways is to
have your home inspected for
fire hazards by experts --your fire-
men. /lour fire department can
help you spot and eorrect those
unsafe conditions 'which e o u 1 d
cause a fire in your home."
Urging everyone's co-operation
in the Exeter Home Fire Inspec-
tion natsgram, the 4Chief pointed
out that the Canadian and Inter-
national Associations of Fire
Chiefs are sponeoring a nation-
wide eampaign for juist such home
anspeetions as the most effective
means for tutting the terrible
toll of fire deaths among ehild-
ren.
