Garbage Plan
Hensall Council, meeting Mon-
day night, egpresaed "hearty" ap-
proval of a proposal te establish
a private garbage collection ser-
vice.
Council gave permission to Wil -
lam Clement, youog Hensall busi-
nessman, to operate the garbage
service and gave the venture its
"hearty support."
Clement appeared before coun-
cil with a petition from a number
of ratepayers who requested the
collection. He asked council for
a place to dump the garbage but
it was suggeeted he pecure the
location. Council also granted per-,
Mission to. Clement to °Perote the
service station on No. 4 highway
which he reeently purchased.
Miss C, Mitchell appeared ask-
ing for some water and complain-
ing about drains and catchbasins.
E. R, Davis reported on repair
work to the sidewalks and ren -
novation in the hall.
Collector J. A. Patterpon re-
ported taxes were slow coming in
this year. Only about $7,000 has
been paid to date.
Council decided to stage a mu-
nicipal garbage ,collecting on Oct-
ober 18 and 19.

Entertains Men
The Legion Auxiliary enter-
tained the Legion members at a
turkey 'banquet at the Legion
Hall on Tuesday evening. Over 60
sat down to a delicious supper.
In a draw for a hammered alum-
inum tray, William Brown was
the lucky winner. President Bob
Sangster of the Legion drew the
winning ticket. The evening con-
cluded with a dance with music
supplied by Mr. Young and his
orchestra.

Mrs, Harold Bell was hostess
for the Choir of Carmel Presby-
terian Church on Thursday even-
ing, when she entertained the
members, at her home. Following
choir rehearsal the evening was
spent socially after which re-
freshments were served by Mrs.
Bell arid her daughter, Miss Shir-
ley Bell.
Holy Communion was adminis-
tered at Carmel Church on Sun-
day morning last. Rev. D. Mac-
Donald, minister of the church
was in charge and preached an
impressive sermon. The choir was
under the dire cti on of Mrs.
Harold Bell.

Due to extremely dry condi-
tions fall wheat is slow in sprout-
ing and is coming up very un-
even. Silo filling is now practic-
ally all completed in the county
and some grain corn has .been
picked. Yields of -corn for silage
and for grain will be down oon-
siderably :below other years.

His wife, Mary emillie, pre-
deceased him in 1946.

of Hamilton; four daughtere,
Mrs. R. M. Peck (Grace), Kip -
pen; Mrs. A. E. Howe (Helen), of
Hyde Park; Mrs. H. L. Statham
(Jean), of Kingsville, and Mrs.
D. L. Geiger (Pearl), of Zurich;
22 grandchildren, and 20. great
grandchildress; also a brother,
William, of Seaforth.
The funeral will take place
from the Bonthron Funeral Home
on Friday at 2:30 p.nts with Rev.
C. D. Daniel in charge. Interment
will be in Hensall Union Ceme-
tery.
Robert J. Jarrott
Dies In London
Robert J. Jarrott of London, a
native of this area, died Saturday
at Victoria Hospital Londe n,
where he was admitted a few
weeks ago suffering from a frac-
tured hip he received in a fall.
In his 85th year he was born
in Hillsgreen, and farmed there
and in the Seaforth districts most
of his life. In 1942 he retired, and
seven years ago he moved to Lon-
don.
His wife the former Bertha
Troyer, died in 1949. Surviving are
three daughters Mrs. Wellington
(Reita) Cook, Hamilton; Miss
Verna Jarrott, and .Mrs. Gordon
(Ruth) Smith, London; one son
Jack H. Toronto, f o u r grand-
children, and seven great-grand-
children, Services were held Mon-
day from the A. Millard George
funeral home, London, conducted
by the Rev. E. R. Stanway, of
Robinson United Church Inter-
ment was in Mount Pleasant ce-
metery.

Native Of Zurich
Dies In Illinois
George Bender, a native of the
area, died suddenly at Hopedale,
Ill., from a heart condition, in his
seventy-ninth year. He was born
in Zurich, son of the late Peter
Bender and Magdaline Wing. He
farmed successfully for years.
Surviving are one son and
thre daughters; two brothers, Al-
fred, of Winnipeg,- and Abe, of
San Gabriel, Cal.; four sisters,
Mrs. Noah Sararas, of Kitchener;
Mrs. Simon Sararas, Hensall; Mrs.
Fred Howald, London; Mrs. Hec-
tor Edighoffer, Pigeon, Mich.

scalloped neck line, fitted bodice
lily -point sleeves, and full floor -
length skirt. A lace cap held her
fingertip veil. She carried a cres-
cent bouquet of red roses and
