Monday night at Harrington, Lucan Trish Nine defeated 'Har- rington 7-6, winning the. Thames Valley second semi-final, having previously defeated Granton. In both they won two straight in the best -of -three. The :first game of the finals with Evelyn, w)tieh was scheduled for Monday eve- ning at Lucan, had to be post- poned owing to rain. Ladies Install Arena Floor During the past week a con- crete floor has been laid over pipes hi the Lucan Arena, The contract for laying titre floor was given to Mr. Frank Van Busse' and Sons of Lucau. Ladies' Guild The Ladies' Guild of Holy Trinity Church held their August meeting in the Parish Hall last Monday evening with the presi- dent, Mrs. Harvey Hodgins, in the chair and Mrs. C. W. Hawk- shaw at the piano. Mrs. D. A. Ashworth read the scripture lesson. Mrs. Harold Corbett and Miss Lina Abbott had charge of the refreshments. Most of the evening was de- voted to making the necessary arrangements for the bazaar which will be held in the church basement on Friday, September 30. Receive Silver On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. H. Ritchie, Lon- don, were guests of honor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Haskett, Lucan, on Sunday when 19 members of the family met to .offer congratulations on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, Not until the wedding cake was put on the table, did Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie realize the gather- ing was more than a family get- together. Later they were pre- sented with 25 silver dollars }n a huge box. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. H. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Vali- quette announce the birth of an- other daughter, born in Guelph Hospital. After spending 10 days with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar McFalls, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weir and fam- ily, of London, have returned home. Mrs. O. C. Lillie, of Birming- ham, irminoham, Mich., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Will Haskett and Mr. Has- kett. The former, who has been sick for months, is slowly im- proving. Mr. Fred Revington spent last Wednesday in Detroit. His sisters, Rose and Ane, who had been visiting .with their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. William Walker, returned with him. Mrs. A Isaac, of Forest, is visiting her sister, Mrs. (Cap Howard, and Mr. Howard, Mr. I7rastlrs Neil, of Scott, Sask., who has .been making an extended visit in this locality, is at present visiting his many Lucan relatives and friends. Wilson, 73 Huron Street, Exeter, Ontario, eligible for three grand prize awards in the $400,- 000 Sealy Posturepedic Contest, Sealy, Inc. of Chicago announced this week. The winner, who entered through R. C. Dinney Furniture Store, Exeter, receives a Sealy Posturepedic Mattress, and contest officials will now consider the entry for one of three grand national awards. The contest offers as its first prize $20,000 cash. A two-week, all -expense vacation .for two in Paris is second grand prize and the third award is a 1955 Pack- ard Caribbean. Mrs. Wilson's was one of 5,000 w i n n i n g entries chosen from among millions submitted in the U.S. and Canada. This is the second time Mrs. Wilson has won a mattress from the local furniture store. A num- ber of years ago she received an ad family, of Toronto, were re- cent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Erie Young and :Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lewis. Mrs. John Casey spent a few days last week with her son, Mr. Harold Hunter, of Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Simpson, Mr. and Mrs. Best Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Strasser, of London, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hodgins last Friday. Owing to a heavy year at Med- way next year, Counsellor Elva Young has found it necessary to resign from Explorer activities. Mrs. Calvin Haskett will now assist Counsellor Iva Hodgins as the new assistant counsellor. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elson and family and Mrs. T. A. Hodgins have returned home from a week at Grand Bend. Miss Elizabeth Butler, now of London, daughter of Mr. Harold Butler, Lucan, has been accepted as a student nurse in the Public General Hospital at Chatham, begining in September.
