Present Playground Awards
At Final Summer ceremony
Twelve awards were Presented
to outstanding (participants in
Exeter's •playground .and recrea-
tion program this year at a Kpee-
ial ceremony held on i2'xlday, the
:final day of the summer aeitivit-
es,
Recreation Director .Doug Smith
presided for the""'presentations,
Mean'bers of the playground staff
assisted,
John Nagle and .Shirley Wurm
received plagues as the outstand-
ing boy or girl of the 1955 Kins-
men tilayground.
Awands went to swimmers who
showed the most ,progress in their
respective divisions during the
summer. These were won by: sen-
ior--iboy, Mervin McKerral and
Rob Ford (tie); . girl, Rofbin.
Smith; intermediate, Eddie Skin-
ner and Roxanne Beavers; junior,
George clodbolt and Dianne Del -
bridge,
Minor teams selected the Ire
eipients for the Most ,Valuable.
Player Awands. In the girls' soft-
ball,- the winner was Nancy Boyle;
in boys' pee ''vee, Doug Kelson;
in boys' Iban'tam, Doug •Sillery,
and in juvenile, Don Wells,
The plaques were donated by
William Butler
Hibbert Native
A native of Hilbibert township
and residing in London for 39
years William L. Butler, retired
London Street Railway bus driv-
er, died suddenly in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London on Thursday
last.
He was a member of the Cen-
tennial United Church. Surviving
are this wife, the former Grace
Cudmore of Exeter; one sister,
Jennie, Mrs. Dwight Fisher of
Guelph; two brothers Bert and
Russell of Hibbert Township.
The body rested at the Car-
rothers and Son funeral home
where funeral service was con-
ducted by the Rev. Roy R, Con-
ner of King Street United Church
on Saturday. Interment ,was made
in Exeter cemetery.

Brown.
Miss Patsy Gardner, of London,
is visiting her aunt and uncle,
Mr. and Mrs. John Mathers.
Mrs. Albert Pollock visited
last Monday with relatives in Bad
Axe, Mich.

Master Wayne ,Reddick, of ,Som -
bra, visited last week with Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Brophey.

Friday, August 19 saw the, fin-
al day of the Kinsmen's summer
playground, A Circus and Penny
Carnival were the order of the
Afternoon while the morning w'ais
Pildevoted to .a church .service and
ins,
Rev. Kerr .and Rev, 1Tapson
conducted the open air service..
We ;ars indebted to all the past-
ors who 'gave of their time this
summer to speak to the child-
ren.
iFniday afternoo'n's Penny Car-
nival was the last event of the
summer, The :games included
dart throwing, toy auto racing,
weight guessing and tooth pick
blowing through straws. Other
popular attractions were •gh1ost's
alley, the wonder -house and pony
rides,
Last Tuesday evening, 75 .child-
ren gathered at Riverview Park
for a welner roast. The evening
got under way with games before.
everyone enjoyed a feast of hot
dogs. We would like to thank
Kist Beverages and the Exeter
Dairy for donating pop and choc-
olate milk. The evening was eon-
eluded with outdoor films.
This week, the wading poor at
Victoria Park will be open if
weather permits. Swimming les-
sons at Riverview are also con-
tinuing until Friday when the
Red Cross Swimming Tests will

be tried at the twinning ,pool at
Centralia.
