Exeter Council
—Continued from Page 1
Reeve McKenzie said the
health unit official had reconl-
mended two heavy 'bulldozers
owned by operators in Wingham
and Blyth.
The clerk wag instructed to
write these owners for prices for
use of their machines.
'Councillor R, D. Jermyn asked
if the Health Unit's recommenda-
tion constituted a condemnation
of the dump.
Clerk C. V. Pickard, who read
the Unit letter, suggested it was
more in the nature of a suggest-
ion that it could be improved.
Councillor R. C. Dinney asked:
"'Does it mean we have to do it?"
Reeve McKenzie said he did not
believe the Unit' would press the
issue.
Councillor R. D. Jermyn re-
ported his committee had auth-
orized repair of the town gates
at the south end at a cost of
$100. Charles Stephen, of P1 m -
Ville, is doing the work.
Reeve McKenzie reported the
county had finished repairing and;
resurfacing Huron and Wellington
Streets.
Ratepayers Hugh Davis and
Bob Luxton, of Marlborough St.,
asked council to connect the side-
walk in front of 'their Homes to
sidewalks leading to the down-
town area. They had requested a
connecting link in their original
petition but the sidewalk had
Just extended across the five
houses' in the area, Councillor
Andrew Snelgrove, who is in
charge of sidewalk construction,
said• ,council expected more con-
struction in that area next suni-
nier and after it was completed
the sidewalk would be extended.
Instead of .hiring sdde`valk con-
struction, council has put the
public works' erew on the job in
an effort to save on costs.
No action was taken on a com-
plaint from Mrs. Ewart Pyin, of
Slices St., about the conditioli
of a septic tank and weeds on
property owned by Councillor
Ralph Bailey 0e. the same street.
Mrs. Pyin charged the tank was
faulty and bad overflooded, cre-
ating an. odor and a hazard for
children In the arca, Mr. Bailey
has several cottages on the
property which he rents.
Councillor Batley replied the
tank had been constructed under
the supervision of the Iluroti
County health 'Unit and that the
weeds had been cut on Monday.
The complaint was left in hitt
hands.
Council passed the first read-
ing of a by-law to +borrow 810,000
by debenture to pay for extension
of waterworks by the P.V,Q, Al-
though council intends to pass
the Eby -law it doesn't plan to
"'issue debentures but rather bar-
rel/ against it until the PMC,
can refund the tnoney train oper-
ating revenue.
