Mohawks, however, have had trouble with the Auburn team this year, losing two and tieing one in four gatnes. •Clinton Jun- iors also upset the Legionaires 3-2 in the Iast meeting of these two teams. 6. The Dashwood. - Zurich series should be .another torrid contest: as it has been for the past three. years. Two years ago the Tigers' won after losing the first three games. and went on to win then O.B.A. championship. Last year the series went to five games be- fore Dashwood emerged the win- ner and advanced to the pro- vincial finals. Nine -Game Streak The Tigers staged a nine -game winning' streak to come from be- hind and • retain their league championship this year. This is the third time they have captured the Supertest trophy. The Dashwood club appeared to have lost its spark at the first of the season when it lost two straight to Exeter on the opening day. At one time the club was near the league cellar ' with a won -two, lost -five record. On July 27, however, the club whip- ped Mitchell 10-8 using Ray Wein as a hurler for the first time. The Tigers never lost a game for the rest of the season. In their title stretch they polished off Mitchell three titres, Exeter twice 'eand Zurich twice. After knocking out these con- tenders, the defending champs had little trouble with Auburn or Clinton. For Settle `o Second S 1 Exeter Mohawks, who trade a big hid to cop their first post- war H -P title, had to nettle for second place. If the remaining games had been played Mitchell Legionaires might haYe tied the tribe but they cpuldn't pass them. The Huron -Perth newcomers, Auburn, knocked the Exeter club out. The locals suffered two loss- es to the neophites while the other title contenders won all their games against the northern team, A mid-season injury to star hurler Doug Aitchison seemed to kill Mitchell's chances to regain the championship. It was the first time the Tigers have been defeated in 10 games. Jim Attrill, the Lumber Kings' mound ace, was the star of the victory. He held the cats to four hits and clouted a two -run homer which scored the winning tally. Zurich took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Doug O'Brien and Bill Zubyk hit successive singles. They advanced on a passed ball and O'Brien scored on an infield grounder. The Tigers loaded the bases after two were out in the last half of the same inning but .Att rill doused the rally by fanning the third out. Dashwood threatened again in the fifth when Jim Hayter blast- ed a triple to the 'centre -field fence after two were out but Att- rllll again fanned the next batter to get out of trouble. Pitcher Homers The clinching blow came in the seventh. Ben Gignac singled and stole second. Then Attrill pound- ed the pill over the short left field fence to give his team a 3-0 lead. Fielding of both teams was excellent; each had only one error: The loss was Dashwood's sec- ond this season to their arch rivals. The Tigers had a 3-1 edge in games over the regular season but most observers see the teams evenly matched and another close series between these two "D" contenders is expected.
