Davy Crocketts Invade Park
By TRUDY PICKARRD
Many scenes from the Wild Wes-
tern Frontier are .unfolding at
the playgrounds this week. It is
Davy Crockett and Indian week.
Davy Crockett and ,his wife were
chosen from the Exeter Kin play-
ground. They are Lloyd Moore
and Margaret Munroe. The Indian
chief and squaw, Jon Nagel and
Bonnie Doerr were, chosen from
Victoria Park ,playground.
On Friday, a colorful parade
of Davy Crocketts, some of whom
will be mounted on trusty steeds;
and many Indian warriors will
march from the main playground
via. Andrew and Sanders streets
to Main St. and proceed up Main
St. to Riverview Park.
At Riverview Park a mock
massacre will be held, where all
Davey Crocketts will have a
chance to uphold the legion of
the great frontiersman. Tribal
dance's and swimming will follow.
On Wednesday the opening of
the wading pool at Victoria Park
sponsored by the Beta 'Sigma Phi
and supervised by the •Exeter
Kinsmen supervisors took place.
Opening ceremonies were •follow-
ed by a penny carnival.
Next week at the playgrounds
the children will have a chance to
choose and plan their own acti-
vities. This week of Children's
Choice is highly regarded as being
excellent in leadership develop-
ment.

Prove Favorable
BY DOUG SMITH .
The playground swimming pro-
gram is well underway at the
park 'with close to 200 registered
arid, as usual, Bob Fletcher is
doing a fine job of instruction.
Rumors of contaminated water
were quickly dispelled when we
received two favorable water re-
ports last week. Mr. R. M. Hale,
of the Huron County Health tlnit
took a test on the eighth of July
and the water ds suitable for
swimming.
If the water is ever found nn -
fit for swimming we will dis-
eontinue swimming clauses imme-
diately.
Big news at the swimrntng area
le the formation of two new eluhs,
the one -hal mile and mile clubs,
two very popular innovations for
the older boys. An inter -play'-
.ground swim meet is coining up
in August with John McCarroll's
swimmers at Centralia,
Sorority Wading Pool
The newly built wading p001 at
Victoria Park necessitated a
change in our playground pro-
gram. •
All three- to five-year-old 'chil-
dren will be asked to attend
Victoria Park during the week
and to compensate for this ex-
pected increase in attendance we
are putting two supervisors on.
at Victoria Park and if the
crowds of children are too great.
we will schedule hours for differ -

The big news •for this week is
the Donkey .baseball game •Thurs-
day, July 21. Harold (Bud) Pres
zcator called me and challenged
the Legion to a ,game. At that
time I honestly did not know
what to say but d told him if I
did not calf shim before nine
o'clock that night the game was
on, Well, as you can see, I didn't
call him and Manager -Reg. Mc-
Donald has his team.ready to go.
This is something you people
who see it will be talking about
for months and those that didn't
will be wishing they had.
gust imagine a man, be he
Kinsman or Legionaire, up at the
plate. He hits the ball into the
field, and, has to get onto a donk-
, ey and ride it to first base before
the opposing team can ride his
donkey to the ball, :pick it up,
then throw it to first base,,from
the back of the donkey before
the batter gets there.
You. may think that is easy,
hut those donkeys go when they
are ready; Luck when they're
read or back up in the wrong
direction. In other words they do
just about what they want. to do,
not what the rider tries tomake
them. do. A .

Comrade 'Gerald Campbell is
laid up in St. Joseph's Hospital
with a bad ankle. I don't know
just :how serious his trouble is,
but here is wishing him a speedy
recovery and hope he will not
have a long stay in the hospital.

The Mohawks ,came through
with another victory Tuesday
night. Comrade Fred (Casey)
Darling managed the team and
by all reports did an excellent
job. Yours truly was at thegate
and didn't see much of the game
but I hear it was really a well -
played game. Apparently it was
more like the type of balll the
Exeter team is enable of play-
ing.

g haven't much to report on the
Lions' project as yet bet I under-
stand they have •purch•ased a car
and the tickets will be out very
soon. So any of you comrades who
are asked to sell tickets, I hope
you • will get out and really push
them because •I understand there
is a good prize for the seller of
the winning ticket. Another rea-
son to get out and work for this
project is that your son or daugh-
ter, niece or nephew, or mine, are
going to benefit from this because
sooner or later they are going to
belong to one of these clubs.'
