Three -Way Race For H -P Honors;
igers Edge Tribe To Take Lead
With two-thirds of the sched-
uie over, the Iiuron-Perth Inter-.
mediate 60041 race has ,boiled.
•downto a neck -and meek contest
among three teams,.
Dashwood Tigers a irrentiy en -
a one -point margin .over Ex-
eter Legion Mohawks and Mit-
ebell but the Legionaires- have
• the best won -lost record, They'.
have played two less games than
either of the other contenders.
The Tigers are -the hottest
team in the circuit right now.
This week 'they polished off Mo-•
hawks 3-0 and Zurich. Lumber
Kinga 5-4 to move into first
place for the first time this sea-
son.
Mitchell Legiouaiies scored. 23
runs in two victories, They whal
loped Zurich Kings 1'1-6 and
Auburn 12-0. Mohawks counted
one win --a 12-2 drubbing of
Clinton Lions Juniors.
The league champions 'prob-
ably will be decided when the
three clubs play each other dur-
ing the next 20 games, Any .of
the other three,' however, could
pull upsets which would knock,
a victim out of the running. Zur',-
loh, particularly, is capable of
surprising any of the leaders.
Most important contest next'.
week will be Monday night when
the Legionaires play in Exeter.
The locals play. Zurich on Friday
night on the Lumber, Kings'
diamond.

Wins Game
Jake Wein,veteran :outfielder
of Dashwood Tigers, knocked his
club into first place of the Iiur-
onPerth 'Baseball League with a
two -run homer in the third in-
ning of .the crucial contest with.
Exeter Legion Mohawks Monday
night.
The circuit .clout paved the.
way 'for 3-0 victory which depos-
ed the tribe from its once -high;
perch on top .of the H -P loop and
put Dashwood one point ahead.
Mohawks could regain ,the lead
but not if the torrid Tigers con-
tinue to tear the league apart.
Veteran Jake hit .a- high strike,
served up by Bob Russell, over
the left field fence after .one was
out in the third, The clout scored
Jim Hayter° who .had* reached
first on a single.
The Tigers' rightfielder scored
the -third run of the game in the
eighth inning after clouting a
double. He *as knocked 'home by
Dick Regier,
Outhlt Tigers 10-8 .
Mohawks outhit the Tigers
10-8 but couldn't connect when
it counted. They left 13 men on
bases .compared to Dashwood's
four.
Lyn Sanesac, the tall hurler
from Leamington, fooled •tribe
hitters with his slow control
pitching.
He. weakened. in the sixth and
let Exeter load ;the bases but
Gerry Guenther came in to retire
the side.
Mohawks had at least two men
en bases in 'each of the last",three
innings but couldn't bring any
around. Singles by. Bob Russell
and Harry Holtzman helped load
the bases in the ninth with only
one out but :a double play ended
the ball game. Red Loader club-
bed a fly ball to„Jake Wein in
right field which might have
scored one run but Bob Meharg
was caught •off first base. The
Exeter shortstop thought --,the hit
was a safe one and was •trying
to come in with the tying run.
Threaten In Second
Both teams threatened in the
second inning with men in scor-
ing position. Saxton clubbed a
double for the tribe but Sanesac
struck out Fred Darling and Jack
Elson. to retire the side. Singles
by Bob Hayter and Sanesac filled
two bases for Dashwood with one
out but Russell forked Terry
Wade to ground out and 1fuss
Page to strike .out.
Sanesac was in scoring posi-
tion again in .the fourth alter hit-
ting a single and stealing second
but he was left stranded. Except
for the one run in the •eighth,
Russell was never in trouble the
rest of the game.
Sanesac was relieved • in the
' sixth when Meharg and Red
Exeter Loader reached base, Guenther
came in and loaded thebases by
walking Darling but fanned El-
son to retire the side. •
in the seventh, Lorne Haugh
and Don Wells singled but no-
body could hitthem home. Dar-.
ling, and Elson hit successive
bingles in the eighth but they
were left on the bags.
Sanesac .and Jake Wein hit
two -for -three a n d two -for -four
to lead the Tiger batters. Bob:
Russell clubbed three singles for
the locals.
Tempers flared in the fifth
when E11;on plowed into Tiger
Firstbaseman Bob :Stormes after
hitting a ground. ,ball. Storm,*
retaliated by blocking Lorne
Haugh on the next play.

Clinton Club
Tribe's Meat
lVlohawks reserve their scoring
sprees for Clinton Juniors this
season. After slaughtering the
youngsters from the hub town
13-3 ad 18-1 during the first half
of the schedule, the tribe swamp-
ed them again Friday night by
the count of 12-2.
It was a combination of Clin-
ton's wild pitching and Mohawks'
hitting which brought on the lop-
sided score. The tribe opened
with five runs in the first inning
on two hits, three walks and an
error. After scoring singles in
the second 'and third, the local
braves romped home with another
five runs in. the fifth on four hits
and two walks.
Chuck Wheeler, making his
second start on the mound 'for Ex-
eter; gave his matestheir first
win in the secona round of the
schedule with a neat two -hitter.
He struck out bine men over the
seven -inning route. Although
Wheeler was unimpressive in his
tworelief roles against Dash-
wood and Mitchell last week, the
airman has won both his starts
for the tribe this season.
Ken :Saxton and Fred Darling
scored two -for -three tries to lead
