Mohawks Cop First Place
Tigers, Zurich Advance
Exeter Legion Mohawks moved.
into •first place in the Huron -
Perth standing with their ' 7-4
win over Mitchell Legionaires on
Monday night. The tribe has the
best percentage in the loop with
a 5-2-1 record.
Mitchell dropped into seconi
place with two losses• this past
week. Zurich Luniber Kings
handed the Legionaires an 8-2
setback Friday night. •
Dashwood Tigers and Zurich
improved their standing with two
wins each. The Tigers whipped
Auburn. 12-3 Monday night and
Clinton 6-3 on Friday to claim
third spot. Besides the Mitchell
win, Zurich pasted Clinton 11-1
Monday.
The league race is the tightest,
Ws ever been. Exeter leads Mit-
chell by tub.. points but the rest
of the teams are separated by
only a single point.
Saxton Stars
In, 7-4 Win
New Mohawk catcher Ken Sax-
ton proved himself a versatile
ballplayer Monday night when
he starred in the tribe's 7-4 win
over Mitchell Legionaries.
Saxton showed he can handle
the throwing end of a battery Us
well as the receiving end by al-
lowing only four hits in five in-
nings. He cracked a three -run
triple in the seventh inning which
gave Mohawks their fourth win
of the season.
Manager Jim Fairbairn put the
blond catcher on the mound
when his three regular starters
failed to appear. Bob Russell,
who finished the game, was de-
layed; Chuck Parsons was work-
ing and Chuck Wheeler is on
holidays.
Saxton started off shakily by
walking two men and allowing
two singles in the first but the
Legionaires scored only one run.
Mitchell scored lone tallies in
the third and fourth on errors
and an earned run in the fifth.
Russell held them scoreless the
rest of the game.
Mohawks were trailing 4.3 in

the seventh when Don Wells,
Harry Holtzman and Bob Me-
harg clouted successive singles.
Saxton's triple drove them home
and he scored on Fred Darling's
safety. Red Loader, Saxton and
Darling scored for Exeter in the
second and third innings.
Holtzman, Meharg, Saxton and
Darling each hit two safeties fot
Exeter. Bob Aitkins clouted two
hits for the Legionaires.
The Mohawks' win deadlocks'
the record •between the two "0"
rivals for the league leadership.
The Legionaires defeated the
tribe 3-2 in their first meeting on
the local diamond.
Scrappy Auburn
Blanks Mohawks'''
A scrappy Auburn crew dealt
Exeter Legion Mohawkstheir
worst defeat of the season Friday
night. The northerners, considered
a weak entry in the Huron -Werth
this year, posted their third vic-
tory by blanking the tribe 9-0.
Mohawks hit their worst field-
ing slump of the year in the face
of heavy hitting by the winners.
The locals committed five official
errors, most of them costly.
Bob R.ussfill became the second
Mohawk righthander to find woe
in the left-handed Auburn batting
lineup. Steve Mitro found a pa-
rade of six portsiders difficult
two weeks ago• when the teams
tied. Russell had to face a string
of seven lefties and they pound-
ed eight hits off him before be
was relieved by Chuck Parsons
in the fourth.
George Wright, Auburn's be-
spectacled shortstop, was the con-
troversial sparkplug for the win-
ners. He hit three safeties in-
cluding a triple but lie didn't en-
dear 'himself to the locals with
his hard baseruuning. Wright
charged Ken Saxton at the plate
in the third inning but Umpire
Gus tBoussey ealled him out for
interference, In the fifth inning
he spiked rival shortstop Bob
Meharg when he slid into second.
Bob 'Yungblut had a perfect
two -for -two night for the win-
ners. Bill Patterson and Bill
Craig both hit safely twice.

The stakes surveyors use to
mark land'boundaries have a
way of disappearing=and that
can mean a whole survey has to
be done over again. But now
there's a new all -aluminum stake
that is tough for time and
weather and playful animals to
handle. It won't rust, rot or
weaken. And two barbs open
out at right angles, underground,
to prevent its being rooted out
by even the most muscular bear.
It's a Canadian invention, made
of Canadian aluminum, by a
Canadian company, to meet a
typically Canadian problem.
