There s weuld be many more 'hap-
py citizens if pedestrians were
given the right-of-way on side-
walks, and ears on ;highways and
roads, We•must admit to annoy-
ance when we travel in convoy .of

and are expected to shift off the
walk for a bicycle.
Safety Council
At the last meeting .of the l8cal
Safety Council, the 'problem of
bicycles and their riders was
mentioned. If Caere should 'be
ream' to believe that' a problem
exists, the ,council Would no doubt
work to correct it. Howeyer,„as
one member stated, comments and
suggestions must be tkrtheoming
from townspeople if the council
is to ,know what steps, to take to
help malts Exeter a safer town.
A safety club for bicyclists
proved to be successful in one
centre. Members were required
to pass a good stiff test. •Those
who passed it earned special
badges to be attached to their. ve-
hicles. They were fioud Co' dis-
play them and to show how they
had earned them. - • .
,-,Perhaps if our children learn
caution and 'courtesy 'as they ride
their bicycles, they will gain the
needed respect from motorists
and pedestrians and beeome bet-
ter. motorists themselves in the
future.. ,
