Though horse -racing existedover 3000 years ago,
the Thoroughbred is a modern. development.
Nearly every thoroughbred racing today is
descended from one of three stallions
• imported to England from the Near East
around i7213. These horses, incidentally, are the
ohly animals termed " 'laooQugllbreds".
Pedigreed dogs, cattle, etc. arecalled "Pure-bred".
