Manager K. J. Lampman said Wednesday.. ' "As far as I can see, it won't affect our plans unless something materializes very quickly.," Mr. Lampman stated, "I think it will come eventual- ly, but it may take 15 or ,20 years. Jermyn EXETER mittee to look Into the possibil- ties of the scheme. , -It may result, say officials, in lines running from half a dozen intakes on Lakes Huron, Erie and Ontario to oarry water 50 and 60 'miles inland. The plan is revolutionary. ,Up to now each municipality has been responsible for its own -water supply. Under the tentative Queen's Park scheme, municipali- tiet would band together and be given provincial aid to lay pipes into which each municipality would tap for its water supply. Pipe to Kitchener? For example, Lake Huron wa- ter might be piped in as far as Kitchener and Waterloo, serving Stratford and many points 'along the route. Premier Prost brought the idea up at the Dominion -Provincial conference at Ottawa last Tuesday, suggesting that it be given con- sideration on the national level "I think the idea is a good one," Manager Lampman told The Times -Advocate. "With West- ern Ontario growing so rapidl because of industrial expansion, municipalities are going to face a serious water shortage," he said. 'This may be the answer." official at Queen's Park pointed out that Southwestern Ontario is the fastest-growing large area in Ontario. "But the present rate of growth may not mean anything compared to the potentialities if adequate water is assured to supply large industries which may want to settle inland there," he said Exeter, faced with a water shortage and a request from In- . MONTGOMERY Fine weather the last half of the week enabled, many farmers to finish seeding spring grains. Grain fields seeded during Easter Week have come up quite evenly and suffered very little from the heavy rains later in the month. Considerable acreage of Garry and Roxton oats and Montcalm' barley- have been planted under contract, Officials report farmers slow in signing sugar beet contracts with only 1,000 acres being con- tracted to date. Indications are that the white bean acreage will be down considerably from last year. Already a number of live- stock have been turned out to grass.
