Easter Meeting The Easter meeting of the Women's Missionary Society was held in the church on Good Fri- day evening with members of the congregation as their guests. Mrs. Lloyd Sorsdahl presided. Members of the Young People's Society presented the religious drama "Naomi", Rev. S. Kerr spoke briefly on the significance of Good Friday.. Leading in devotional exercises were Mrs. T. Laing, Mrs. M. La - mond, Mrs. John Wallace and Mrs. J. M. Scott. A picture film, "Christ is Risen", was shown with Mrs. Lloyd was as narrator. Mrs. Will Miller presided at the organ and an Easter number, "The Old Rugged Cross," was sung by the male quartette. The presentation of a life membership certificate to Mrs. John Wallace was made by Rev. Kerr. Carmel Ladies Aid Mrs. Alex McGregor was Hos- tess to the Ladies Aid of Carmel Church, Hensall, on Monday eve- ning, Mrs.' John Soldan's group had charge of the devotional per- iod. A playlet entitled "Christ Is Risen" was enacted by Mrs. J. Love, Mrs. H. Bell and Mrs. J. Soldan. Mrs. E. Munn contributed a piano solo. Mrs. L. Baynlram, president, conducted the business meeting. Final plans were made for the hot roast pork supper to be put on by the ladies of the church on Saturday, April 16. Station, Cen- tralia, who based her thoughts on the theme, "Do you show the risen Christ in your life?". Con- tributing to the program were Beth Goddard and Jan,: Horton with a piano duet; Mrs. Doug Cook, a reading; Mrs. Donald Dayman and Mrs. Bruce Mc- Gregor, of Kippen, a vocal duet; Mrs. William Fuss, a solo, and the Ross sisters, Chiselhurst, a duet. r United Church W. Mrs. Clark sang a solo accompanied by Miss Luker and a piano solo was given by Miss Luker. An appropriate film "The Road to Emmaus" was shown -by Mrs. Alexander with introductory re- marks by Miss M. Ellis. Stew- ardship notes were presented by Mrs. G. Armstrong. Mrs. W. J. 'Rogers, president, conducted the business meeting. Hensall Topics ' A meeting of those interested in organizing a softball club will be held at Fink's store at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday night, April 19. }Iensell firemen received'a hur- ried call about midnight on Mesa. day to the apartment of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Lott, over Bonthron's furniture store. The tank in their oil stove had flooded and got out of control. With the exception of smoke no damage was reported. Mrs. C. L. Spellman and Misses Joan and Connie Spellman, of Kitchener, were Easter Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Sol- dan. Joan and Connie are spend- ing the holiday with their cousins, Pat and Mike Soldan and Mary Jane, Bob, Bill and Jim Hoffman, of Dashwood. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Welk, of Eganville, were Easter weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. K. K. Christian. Miss Carolyn Spellman, of Kitchener, who for the past two years has been a teacher with the London Separate School and London Granite Figure Skating Club, has accepted a call from the Kitchener -Waterloo Separate School Board to teach physical training in the public and high schools. Two Couples Mark Events Mr. and 'Mrs. Archie Noakes, well-known 'Hensall residents, on Saturday Observed their fgrtieth wedding anniversary with a fam- ily dinner marking the event, The home was 'attractively decorated with Easter flowers while the bridal table was centered with a three tier wedding cake flanked with Easter lillies and white mums. Mr. and Mrs. Noakes were mar- ried in Hensall 'by the late Rev. W. J. Doherty and have (been residents of the village for 22 years. Mrs. Noakes is the former Annie Richardson. They have a family of three sons and two daughters and 22 grandchildren. Mr. Robert Cooper and Mrs. Eddie McBride spent several days with Mrs. Grant Love, of 'Caro, Mich. Six young people were received into the church, Eileen McLean, Marion Turner, Donelda Lostell, Marie Sinclair, Elva Jarrott and Nelson McClinchey. The choir rendered two _an- thems "Joyous Easter Morning" and "The Easter Song" under the leadership of Miss Jean Ivason. Rev. McLeod chose for his ser- mon "The New Life." At 8 p.m. an informal service of Easter hymns was held.
