Although the business is only
two and one-half years old, it has
flourished rapidly under the care-
ful attention of proprietor Herb
Turkheim. The Exeter store is
the result of an ever-expanding
business in this area which neces-
sitated a local depot.
Besides the Exeter store, the
firm will keep a sample room at
Turkheim's house in Zurich for
customers in that area.
The proprietor started in the
floor covering business when he
started with Gascho Bros., of
Zurich. After spending seven
years with this firm, Mr. Turk-
heim ventured on his own in
1952.
Born in Zurich, he attended
schools there and at Exeter. He
has been active in Zurich sports,
particularly hockey, and was
manager of the famous Zurich
Flyers for several years. He has
refereed hockey and umpired
baseball in the local intermed-
iate league.
An active member of the Zur-
ich Lions Club, Herb has served
as tail twister and chairman of
the Health and Welfare Commit-
tee. He is also a member of Hen-
sall Oddfellows Lodge
He is married to the former
Joan Deitz, of Zurich, and they
have one son, Douglas.
The new Exeter store has been
completely remodeled for the
opening. The floor has been re-
finished, the walls papered in an
attractive colour, and the ceiling
redecorated. Colourful displays
and materials highlight the mo-
dern interior.
