Memorial .Community Centre last
Thursday afternoon. An invitation
to attend the "Antique and Hob-
by Show" April 15, sponsored by
the )Juan Home and. Seltool As-
sociation, was read. It was decid-
:ed to again use the Penny Round-
up bags to aid the Canadian
Mental Health Association. Bags
were distributed by Mrs. George
Paul, The president will inquire
into thepossibility of securing
the Anglican Parish Hall for a
place of meeting. It was voted
that the president beset to the
Guelph Conference 111 ;ay 12-13.
It being the "Agriculture and
Canadian Industries" meeting,
Mrs, U. F. Stanley gave an in,
teresting description of a paper
and pulp mill she visited while
in. Kapuskasing last year. She
said it seemed incrediblethat
one week after the logs left the
river we were' reading the news
on the paper made from them.
Mrs. Evan Hodgins introduced
the guest speaker who was "The
Old Vet" (Mr. A. Davies), of
Strathroy, who gave a most in-
teresting talk on the care of
flowers -- fertilizing, watering,
planting, slipping, etc. He Ie-
monstrated the using of a sharp
knife to cut slips at .an angle,
and the breaking up .of dahlia
roots before planting. He told of
the plants which needed a rest
Period.
Mrs. Davies, conducted a draw
of most of the plants and bulbs
used in his demonstration. The

Mrs. Lily Box
Dies At Home
Mrs. Lilly Box died at ,the
home of her daughter, Mrs. John
Haskett, Con. 18, London town-
ship, on March 15. She rested at
the Needham Memorial Chapel,
London, until Friday when the
Rev. Bruce Guy, of Birr United
Church conducted, funeral ser-
vices. Interment • was in Siloam
Cemetery,.,
'Daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William McGuffin, she was
a resident of West Nissouri town-
ship until nine years ago when
she moved to the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Haskett. She mar-
rie dtlie late Frank Box 52 years
ago. She was a -member of Birr
United Church. 'She is survived
by her daughter, . Mrs. }leskett,
and a number of nieces and
nephews. •

On March 14, Mrs, M. 0.
Smith, while cleaning up some
papers on her lawn, was surpris-
ed to find in her perennial bed
a number of "Johnny -Jump -Ups"
in bloom, suffieent for a good -

The worship service took the
form of a dramatization of a
Hebrew family ee worship. The
girls were seated on the floor
and a lighted candle was placed
on the table. The "Sheena," was
repeated in unison, following the
call to worship by the father,
Counsellor Iva Hodgins. Tile mo-
ther, Jeanette Blake, asked the
group to "praise the Lord by
singing about His goodness to
His people all through the years"
and the hymn "0 God Our Help
In Ages Past" was sung. The
father then read from a scroll
the story of the Lord's goodness
to Elijah and the blessing given
to Aaron was repeated in unison.

Oonvicted On Birthday
James Cook, R.R. 1, 'Lucan,
was sentenced to one month in
jail and fined $200 last Friday
by County Judge J. A, Legris, on
his nineteenth birthday. Cook
was convicted January 18 on
dangerous driving, following an
accident December 5, on Highway
4, near Mooresville, which result-
ed in the death of Mrs. A. W.
Demerling and her 25 -year-old
daughter, Barbara.
Euchre
Mrs. Guy Ryan" and Mrs, Joe
O'Neil were hostesses for the
euchre in the Coursey School last
Friday evening. High score prizes
went to Mrs. Charles Grose and
Mr. George Hodgins; consolation
prizes to Mr. and Mrs. Evan Hod-
gine, and the lucky card prize to
RLoreen Bodging.
Mrs. Charles Grose and Mrs.
Toni Coursey will be hostesses
for the next euchre. .

Lee, who died in St. Joseph's Hos-,
pital, London,, on !March 17, in his,
seventieth year. were conducted'
from the Murdy Funeral Horne,
Lucan, on Saturday. Rev. II M.
Cook of the Lucan United Church'
officiated. Interment was in SL
Jame s' Cemetery, Clandeboye.
Pall bearers were Roy Cunning ,
ham, Harold Morgan, Lee Treve-
thick, Harold Lee, George Lee
and Ansel Lee. •
Son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
George Lee, he was born in Mc-
Gillivray Township where he
farmed for a number of years.
Later he was a hotelkeeper at
Forest and Exeter. About one -
and -a -half years ago he moved
to 469 Dufferin Ave., London,
Besides his wife, the former
Hannah Morgan, he is survived.

Discussing the main highway
safety problems of today, speed,
drinking drivers and lack of
courtesy were named as the great-
est menaees to safe driving.
Stricter enforcement of traffic
laws, compulsory ear 'insurance
for all drivers and examinations
of cars for mechanical defects
were suggested as safety mea-
sures. One group•'suggested that
at the two bad turns in the
Clandeboye area, a sign Iimiting
the speed •to 30 m.p.h would help
to eliminate accidents at these
points,
Back seat drivers" came in
for criticism by one group which
felt that they distract the atten-
tion of the driver.

Mrs. Lily Box
Dies At Home
Mrs. Lilly Box died at ,the
home of her daughter, Mrs. John
Haskett, Con. 18, London town-
ship, on March 15. She rested at
the Needham Memorial Chapel,
London, until Friday when the
Rev. Bruce Guy, of Birr United
Church conducted, funeral ser-
vices. Interment • was in Siloam
Cemetery,.,
'Daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William McGuffin, she was
a resident of West Nissouri town-
ship until nine years ago when
she moved to the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Haskett. She mar-
rie dtlie late Frank Box 52 years
ago. She was a -member of Birr
United Church. 'She is survived
by her daughter, . Mrs. }leskett,
and a number of nieces and
nephews. •

Smith, while cleaning up some
papers on her lawn, was surpris-
ed to find in her perennial bed
a number of "Johnny -Jump -Ups"

In Ages Past" was sung. The
father then read from a scroll
the story of the Lord's goodness
to Elijah and the blessing given
to Aaron was repeated in unison.

Oonvicted On Birthday
James Cook, R.R. 1, 'Lucan,
was sentenced to one month in
jail and fined $200 last Friday
by County Judge J. A, Legris, on
his nineteenth birthday. Cook
was convicted January 18 on
dangerous driving, following an
accident December 5, on Highway
4, near Mooresville, which result-
ed in the death of Mrs. A. W.
Demerling and her 25 -year-old
daughter, Barbara.
Euchre
Mrs. Guy Ryan" and Mrs, Joe
O'Neil were hostesses for the
euchre in the Coursey School last
Friday evening. High score prizes
went to Mrs. Charles Grose and
Mr. George Hodgins; consolation
prizes to Mr. and Mrs. Evan Hod-
gine, and the lucky card prize to
RLoreen Bodging.
Mrs. Charles Grose and Mrs.

Lee, who died in St. Joseph's Hos-,
pital, London,, on !March 17, in his,
seventieth year. were conducted'

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
George Lee, he was born in Mc-

farmed for a number of years.

and -a -half years ago he moved
to 469 Dufferin Ave., London,
Besides his wife, the former
