Televiston aerals, telephone and hydro poles and trees were about the only victims of the raging winds. Although only three inches of snow fell, it swirled up In inounds around buildings and most house- holders had to dig themselves out Wednesday morning. Tuesday night's hockey game in Exeter with the Goderieh Sailors was cancelled because of the road conditions. Visibility was practi- cally zero in the rural areas. A Huron Street tree which was blown down by the wind caused a hydro interruption for several hour;?•in that area. Several hydro poles in the area snapped during the night but crew restored them Wednesday. A hydro gang front the Local office went to Lucan area Tues- day night to help with distur- bances there. Telephone lines "to Kirkton, Dashwood and Grand Bend were out for awhile. The line to Kirk-' ton had not been restored late Wednesday afternoon, Lake Huron waves did little damage at Grand Bend. Four fish- ing boats were caught in the storm but reached shore without too mueh difficulty. The weekly weather report from RCAF Station Centralia shows some precipitation on ev- ery day during the past week ex- cept Saturday. Low for the week was 18.6 on Thursday and high was 47.5 Sunday. sudden change. Pfister Variety Tops Corn Test ° 'For the second year in a row Pfister variety of corn produced the top yield in the rod -row test plot at the South Huron District High School. Results o fthe test, conducted last summer, were an- nounced this week by Andrew Dixon, agriculture department head. He spoke of the various projects sponsored by the Red Cross. Mr. Harbld Whyte, as chair- man, reported on the splendid result of the recent blitz which enabled the club to donate $50.0 to the Red Cross.' • During the evening the draw was made for the trip for two to a play-off hockey game in Toronto,including one night's hotel accommodation, plus $10.00 expenses. The lucky winner was Mrs. .Douglas Rivers of Exeter. Proceeds will be in aid of the Building and Welfare Fund. • Men's Club Rev. A. E. Menzies of Ailsa Craig was the .guest speaker at the March meeting of the Lucan Men's Club held in the United Church on March 16. He gave an interesting illustrated talk on his trip through the British Isles. Mr, Dave Park's group had charge of thelprogram and refres'hlnents. L.0.13.A.
