Chairman of the Board
4.1
Your South Huron Hospital Association is pleased to re'port significant pro-
gress during 1954.
The hospital and its excellent facilities provided service to, more district
people than ever during the past year. The staff and equipment were in .constant use
to meet the ever-increasing demand for hospital service, The receipt from the provinc-
ial government of grants of $5,883.38 for maintenance has reduced the cumulatWe
deficit to $2,422.00
Our deficit, relatively small in 1958, was cut in half in 1954, 'We operated
at a loss of $2,502,0.3 compared to .$5,803.35 in 1958.
But perhaps the greatest advance has been made in the provision of new
equipment and enlargement of services in the hospital. The list of achievements, in-
cludes a $9,000 admittance :c -ray machine; a new auxiliary lighting system which
automatically comes on \vhen a hydro interruption occurs; approximately $2,500 worth
of medical instruments for use in the operating rooms; one .croupette and tw.00 new
infant bassinettes for the hospital's nursery; installation of airconclitioning and fan.
system in kitchen and corridors; a second oxygen tent and other facilities.
In addition, the nurses 'quarters have been enlarged by furnishing rooms in
the basement and a doctor's consultation room has been outfitted,
The contributions of many organizations and friends throughout the district
have helped us finance these purchases.
