EXETER
Ice into an empty net. Jessiman
has been replaced with an Jextra
forward for a faceoff in the Ex-
eter zone when We Idellawits'
playing coach broke out alone at
the red line and hit the corner
of the open cage.
Baker broke the Strathroy 'at-
tack during the second period
when the Rockets poured on the,
speed to tie the game.' The 'Mo-
hawk goaltender made some es-
pecially fine saves when the tribe
was shorthanded.
Vengeful battles which had
been predicted felled to material-
ize in, the game although play was
rough. Ten penalties were Called
with Mohawks taking six of the
gates.
Climaxes Recovery
The win climaxed a startling
recovery by the tribe WhQ '411141P -
ed deeply into the cellar the
leant) during the regular season.
After a, first game loss of 5-3,
Mohawks evened' the series on -
home ice with a 9-5 win In what
looked to be develePia& tato a
see -saw battle to the wire.
But the tribe astounded the
Rockets with a 5-1 win op Strath-
roy ice in the important thipd
game of the series. It was Barry
McEwen's goal at 17.3a of the
second period of that game which
broke up a 1-1 tie and sent the
tribe on to victory. As it de-
veloped, that counter proved to
be the turning point of the series.
Back in Exeter, Friday night,
the tribe instated the Rockets
with. a 6-1 victory to show sle-
cisively its superiority, It was
following this contest 'that the
Rocket management filed a pro-
test over the legality of some of
the Mohawk players.
Mohawks were short two regu-
lars Tuesday night. Frank An-
derson remained on the sidelines
with his injured shoulder and he
may be out for several weeks yet.

Harry IVIcEwen's tricky stick thought the puck was frozen.
Rocketd were shorthanded twice
during, the last half of the period
but Mohawks were. content with
their five-goaLlead.
Strathroy was much displeased
with the -penalty-calling. They
suffered four trips to the bin
while Mohawks had only two.
Doug Beattie replaced the W-
ilfred Frank Anderson on the
front line. Although he didn't re-
ceive any scoring points his check-
ing was effective.
Close to 900 fans witnessed the
contest.
and Car Baker's talented toe
helped Exeter Mohawks rack up
a 6-1 win over Rockets ln the
fourth game of the series Friday
night.
MoEwen,...vrlio lima the short-
est stick although he's the tall-
est man in the tribe, scored half
of Mohawk's total including the
tie -breaking marker In the sec-
ond period and the two insulting
tallies in the third. His second
goal, a• solo effort' in which he
outinaneouvered Rockets' Fulton
to 'beat Jessiman, was the nicest
of the night.
In chalking up his second
straight one -goal game, Gar Bak-
er again showed .that he is more
than capkble of playing 'in the
"A" league. Although outclassed
during t'he regular season, Baker
has improved terrifically along
with the defensive play of his
mates. The future schoolteacher
performed the splits to perfection
Friday night as he robbed Rock-
ets on many corner shots. He was
quick, too, with his hands, •
Hid Line Shines
Again the kid line shone as the
three pestered the Rockets like_
hungry,Illes. For at least half of
the game they were the best trio
on the ice, when they weren't
bottling the 'Rockets up in their
own end 'they were checking the
visitors to a standstill.
The kids opened the, scoring
two minutes after the game start-
ed. Barging into the Rockets'
end, John Trendell took the disc
from Fulton behind the net And
pushed it out to Restelli on And
wing. Pete lank a rising shot to
the corner.,
Don Smith tied it up for the
Rockets -on one of the Emus'
line's brilliant rushes. Emma and
Moffat carried the puck from be-
hind their own 'blue line and
Smith finished. the play by dunk-
ing ilYloffat's goal -mouth pass.
Rockets slowed Mohawks down
with some hard hitting during
the period but the tribe gained
the edge of the play.
Break Tie In Second •
After Harvey Jessiman made
several, nice saves against the
kids, cEwen sunk the tie -break-
ing rubber at 6.10 of the sedond
period when Red Loader set up
a nice play. The playing -Coach
broke» up Fulton's rush before
he"reached his own blueline and
fired.the puck at Jessiman. Har-
ry rapped in the rebound.
A rink -wide pass ,from Tren-
dell to Doug Smith put Mohawks
up two goalr4 at 8.45. After Gra-
vett had taken the puck into the
zone, Trendell shot from the corn-
er to !Smith on the far side.
Smith's nigh sizzler didn't give
Jessiman a ,chanee.
Red Loader deflected Barry
Doak's shot into the twine at
19:31 for the tribe's fourth goal.
.The play climaxed another piece
of work by Red which found fay -
