Basketball Teams
—Continued from Page' 1
Lavender one.
;Three ,SHDHS basketball teams
eliminated Goderich squads last
week in home -and -home -total-
points series.
The senior girls were edged by
Clinton for four points in two
games. Although the seniors won
23-16 on the local floor, they
could not overcome the 11 -point
handicap of their first game 'de-
feat 21-10.
'This will mark the first .time
in four years the senior girls
haven't reached the Purple Bowl,
tournament in London. Last year
they were finalists in WOSSA
competition.
Panthers Win Easily
Senior boys swamped Goderich
89-56 in their round. The Panth-
ers triumphed' 41-27 at SHDHIS
-Monday and 48-29 at Goderich
on Thursday.
Bev Sturgis led the winners
with 33 .points 4n two games, fol-
lowed by Charles Bernick with
21 and Bruce Cudmore 20. Bill
Yungblut scored nine, Ron Row-
cliffe and Ted Smith two each.
Best for Goderich was John
Docklasher who netted 28.
Score 21 -point Margin
After gaining a bare 6 -point
lead in the •firdt game Thursday,
the junior Panthers racked up
a 43-25 win Monday to take the
round by a convincing margin of
21 points.
Bill Lavender was top scorer
of the local squad with 31 points.
Bill Pollen potted 15, TedNor-
mington 14, Barry Glover 10,
Tom Lavender three and Jim
Etherington two.
Goderich •marksmen were led
by •Strachan and .McCullough.
The junior girls edged Gode-
rich by only three points Thurs-
day but they had a Ill -point lead
from the first game so they chalk-
ed up a comfortable margin in
the low scoring series. The total
score was 35-22.
Barb Allison led the juniors
with six points in Thursday's
game. Other scorers were Connie
Jaelcson, four; Marilyn Bissett,
three; and t arol Tuckey two.
The defeat of the senior girls,
twice champions in the last four
years, narked the end of an era
of Purple Bowl competition for
this .squad. The former champs
lost to a rougher Clinton Squad
by a total count of 37-33.
1A, setback in the third gtiarter
of Thursday's game hindered the
Wats from 'overcoming,' their
11 -point handicap. Leading 10-7
at the half, the girls allowed
Clinton an 8-4 edge in the third
quarter. They came 'bads Strong-
ly in the last frame, however, to.
outscore Clinton 9-1,
ianeyWeibfiter led Clinton girls
With fourteen points. South Rtiran
point -getters Were !tens Murray,
nine; Perla Han, eight; Jeanne
Shcdan six.

The Editor
Dear Sir:
On behalf of the Huron •County
Tuberculosis Association, I should
be much obliged to you if you
would publish in your paper our
thanks to ell who have helped
to make our 1954 Christmas Seal
Campaign a success.
We appreciate the generosity
of those, who by their contribu-
tions, are assisting in making
possible the control of the dread
disease in our county. Free Chest
Clinics are held monthly in five
centres, and the recent donations
are providing for a :continuance
of this service and alsofor an
,increase in the attempts to ed-
ucate our public in the import-
ance of these regular chest ex-
aminations. The present campaign
will close February 28 and the
Association hopes that those who
have not yet sent in their con-
tributions will do so before that
date, in order that' the service
to our county need not be cur-
tailed.
We would also thank all vol-
unteers who helped in preparing
the •Seals for distribution, and the
postmasters arid ,.their assistants
for their help in delivering them.
Thanking you for the public-
ity which you have freely given
to this important cause, I am,
Yours sincerely,
F. J. Snow,
President Huron County
TB Association
