Funeral Services,Ield Private funeral services were held in Hensall on Friday for eight year old Melvin Taylor, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard c d Taylor, Jr. of Kippen, Melvin died suddenly Wednesday morning, the result of injuries received in a bicycle -car collision. on Tuesday. Rev. Appropri- ate ceremonies marked the occa- sion. Two new members, Ernie Chipchase and Wes Thomas, of Hensall, were welcomed. Don Colquhoun, president of Clinton Kinsmen Club, was a guest, Angus McLean, Bank of Montreal accountant, a member of Aylmer Kinsmen club, joined the club by transfer. cake, A birthdaywith the club's colors of purple and gold, was cut by the president, Dr. D. McKelvie, Winner of a draw was Flight Sergeant L. Tiberio, Sponsor Peanut Drive The Hensall Kinsmen Club will sponsor a door-to-door peanut drive commencing March 1. They are also sponsoring a kiddies' night at the Hensall Arena March 18. Added attractions will in- clude clowns and a draw for a N.H.L. stick which was used by Tim Horton at a game in Maple Leaf Gardens. Names of 18 Maple Leaf players are autographed on the stick. Proceeds' are for ser- vice work. John Zuefle, 95 Born In Germany Hensall's oldest male resident, ninety -five-year-old John Zuefle, died at his home Tuesday night. He was born in Germany and learned the shoe -making trade there before •coming to Canada when he was 22. ;He resided in Clandeboye for 10 years, later taking up resi- dence inn• Hensall in 1889 where he conducted a shoe store for seven years. He •also spent some time in Brampton and Harriston before settling again in Hensall. In addition to his trade of shoe -making, he ran a green- house for eight years. His wife, the former Frances Kaiser, died a number of years ago. He was a member of Hen- sall United Church and• was a member of the Masonic Order for more than sixty years. !Surviving are one son, Lorne, of Windsor; two daughters, Mrs. P. L. Buchanan and Mrs. W. R. Bell both of Hensall; one step- brother, Wilfred Finkbeiner, of London and one sister, Mrs. Sam Lamport of Crediton. The body is at the Bonthron funeral home. Service will be held in Hensall' United church Thurs- day at 2 p.m, with the Rev. W. J. Rogers officiating. Hensall Lodge A.F. & A.M. 224 will conduct services. Interment will be in Baird's cemetery. Kyle. The theme of the meeting was "Abide with Me" and the World's Day of Prayer program was followed. Mrs. Russell ,Consitt- was in charge of the worship period. Mrs. Wm. Fuss, of Hensall; sang a solo accompanied by Mrs. R. Broadfoot. 'Scripture reading and prayers were given by Mrs. Eldon Jar- rott, Mrs. John 'Cooper, Sr., Mrs. A. Parsons, Mrs. Morley Cooper, Mrs. J. McLellan, .Mrs. John An- derson, Mrs.Ralph Turner and Mr's. Harold Jones. Mrs. (Rev.) McLeod gave the address. Mrs. Harold Jones conducted a short W. A. business meeting It was decided to ahold a home - baking sale and tea in the Sun- day school on Saturday, March 19. Mrs. Herbert Jones and Mrs. R. KIPPEN New ONR Agent Takes Over Mr. Frank Ellwood, C.N,R, agent at Beachville for the past oneland-a-half yea**, has (been transferred to the C.N.R, here and has taken over his new duties. Mr. Ellwood was agent at Fergus for five years and at Seaforth for five., years, Mr, and Mrs.. Ellwood and son Wayne .ex- pect to move to Hensall soon. Legion Auxiliary Hears Officials Legion Ladies Auxiliary met in the Legion Hall Monday evening. President Mrs. D. McKelvie wel- comed Zoneoinmander Mrs. Lu- ella Hall, of Blyth, and members of Clinton Auxiliary, who were guests for"theevening, Mrs. Hall spoke on "Construct- ive Criticism" and ,stated that there was no need to criticize unless by a helpful suggestion, She congratulated the Auxiliary on their splendid progress. The organization will cater for a wedding banquet in the Legion Hall April -9; will conduct the booth at the arena for the next two weeks, and will send canvass- ers out for the Red Cross drive, Mrs. Alice Joynt was the win- ner of the mystery prize. A hand - crocheted doily, made and con- tributed by Mrs. E. Davis, was won by Mrs. Harry Horton, World's Day Of Prayer The World's Day of Prayer was observed in St. Paul's Anglican Church Friday afternoon with Carmel and the United Churches uniting with them. Leaders were Mrs. S. Dougall for Carmel Church, Mrs, G. Armstrong, for United Church, and Mrs. R. H. Middleton for St. Paul's Church. Mrs. Frank Forrest was at the organ console,• Mrs. R. Y. Maclaren was guest speaker and gave the address, choosing for iter theme, "Prayer". Prayers were offered by Mrs. E. Geiger, Mrs. T. Coates, Mrs. R. J. Cameron, Mrs. B. Edwards. Mrs. Frances Marshall Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Marshall, a former Hen- sall resident, were held from the Evans Funeral Home, London, on Tuesday, with interment In Fo- rest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Marshall, who died at her home in London on Sunday, was in her seventy-sixth year. Sur- viving are two daughters, Mrs. Ada May Mathews, of London; Mrs. Roy (Velma) Reilly, Detroit, Mich.; and four sons, John, of Flint, Mich., and Russell, Albert and Lorne, of London. Girl Guides Association The local association of Girl Guides entertained the Brownies and Girl Guides to a supper party in the town hall on Tuesday. Mrs. Walter Spencer showed pictures on the pantomime "Cinderella" recently presented here, and of the Bean Festival held here last fall. Gail Cunningham was award- ed the prize of $5 for selling the inost tickets for the _pantomime. Young People Meet Hensall - Chiselhurst Young People's Society met in the Chiselhurst United Church. Scrip- ture passages were read by Law- ranee Eyre and prayer was of- fered by John Jacobi. The topic, "Citizenship and Community 'Ser - Vice," was presented iby June Ross. Ross Kercher led in a dis- cussion on "Good Neighbors". It was decided to hold a ,Young People's service in Hensall Unit- ed Church Sunday evening, March 13, when a film will be shown. Auxiliary Euchre Party Legion Ladies Auxiliary spon- sored a successful euchre party in the Legion Hall last Wednesday. Winners were Mrs. Mae McLellan and Eric Smale, Mrs. William Lee's ticket won an angel cake. Mrs. 13. R. Davis and Mrs. S. G. Ronnie convened the party. News of Kirkton By MRS. FRED HAMILTON The A. Y. World Day of Prayer service was held in St. Paul's church with the ladies of Kirkton United church and iSt. Pauls attending. The meeting was in charge of Mrs. Alex Irvine and Mrs. Earl Watson. Mrs. Harold Anderson gave the address and Mrs. R. A. C. Mills read the scripture. The Junior Auxiliary service was held at St. Pauls Anglican church Friday afternoon. Arm bands, badges and mem- bership cards were awarded to Margaret and Louise •Budden, Jane and Joan McNaughton, Hel- en Humphrys, Ann Creery and Susan Mills. Rev. R. A. C. Mills, spoke on the history of badges and awards and showed missionary slides. Currently (the autumn of 1954) all the various Canadian governments, between them, are spending one-third of the nation's total income on public works.
