Reeve Dalton and Councillor J. Hood felt that the traffic on Main St. would not be affected by even 10 percent •as Grand Bend is a summer resort, and people- come to view the lake and would not bother Oak St. or the side streets. The extension of Oak St. is not a major traffic relief. Traffic lights at the junction of No. 21 Highway and No. 81 Highway would relieve the congestion and bumper to bumper line of cars. The council was unanimous on this point, Consider Traffic Lights Mr. Wells expressed a strong desire on behalf of the ratepayers for traffie lights, He was ititorrn- ed by Reeve Dalton that the mat- ter was..being discussed with the province, and that he would have more information later. Councillor C. M. Chapman felt that the extension of Oak St, would give the fire department a chance to work if a fire ever started on Oak St. At present Oak St. is a dead, end at both ends and the fire truck would have to cross Main ,St. "which. is nearly impossible during the summer." ;Councillor Hood proposed a campaign for public education on Oak St. He said that signs should be erected on Oak St. and adjoin- ing roads pointing out that Oak St. is not a through street. Mr. Wells asked for, assurance that Oak St. would be restricted for residential premises only. He said that the residents on Oak St. did not want "hot dog stands and the like," to open on Oak St., just because it will join No. 21 Highway. .Council informed him that it would have to seek legal advice before suck an .assurance could be ,liven. Exeter Council —Continued from Page 1 Foods a total of eight beef and eleven hogs were killed each week It has been suggested that meat inspection may cost the town around $900 to $1,000. , A council committee will meet With the library board to discuss the duties and wages of the jani- tor, William Homey, who looks after both the library and the toven hall. He has requested an increase. Dr. Bruce Eickmeier was ap- pointed to the Recreation Coun- cil to succeed Don Southcott. Oth- er members appointed by by-law, are Gien Miekle, Lloyd Cushman, Douglas Gould, Ree. P. D. Iinox and two councillors, Andrew Snel- grove and, Richard Jermyn. !Clerk C. V.
