game here with Stratb,roy since
Forest upset the Itookets 5-3 en
SaturdaY night,
The 'match With Strat'hr.Y '*
day should be a preview of the
plareff caries ,between these two
clubs,. Although there is a mathe-
matical chance for a oilange
standing, it's probable that Mo-
hawks will meet the Rockets in
the %lint -1140s.
The Rockets have a one -game
,edge on the season's play. They
have trimmed the tribe twice and
suffered one 1038, The first sane
ended in a draw.
IVIohawks have two dates left
after the .Strathroy game. They
meet Goderich Sailors next Tues-
day and Forest on Thursday.
' It's expected that former play-
ing -coach Collo Bowman will re-
turn to the lineup next week.
Club officials received word that
he will join the tribe in practice
on Sunday,
Smith Leads Tribe
Doug Smith led the tribe's war
dance in Forest Monday night,
The stickhandling defenceman,
who has had a mediocre season,
splurged for four goals in the
wide-open contest. His first two
in the initial stanza gave Mo-
hawks a 2-1 lead and he scored
singles in the third and overtime
period,
Bill Kirkland gave Forest a 1-0
lead at 5.56 of the first period
and the Lakesides held the mar-
gin until 13.41 when Smith seared
froua Me wen, Smith's goal came
at 3.5,03 with Loader getting an
assist.
Hap Randall tied the count at
3.51. but Pete Restelli scored_ un-
assisted at 6.44 to put the tribe;
in the lead again. Red Graham :.
counted a marker at 8.16 to make
it 3-3 but less than a minute,
later Harry Mcl1wen scored UP,
assisted to keep Mohawks ahead.
Stan Ulrich finally knotted the
score again at 13.47 and it re-
mained that way, until the end
of the period,
Early in the third, Bill Hick
put Forest ahead for the second
time of the night. Doug smith,
with help from 1Vi4Ewen, made it
5-5 at 5.25 andGravett gave the
locals the lead again at 14.43 on
a play with Beatty. It looked like
Mohawks had the gamesalted
away until Mosienko scored with
only 25 seconds left in the game.
In the overtime period, Smith
gave the tribe another lead on a
combination with Loader and An-
derson at 7,12, Again Mohawks
held off the Lakesides until the
final minute but Art Norland
scored the tying goal at 19.19,
Besides fast, rugged, high
scoring action, the game featured
a number of bouts. Frankie An-
derson and Red Graham renewed
their fend in the third period and
Doug Smith and other Mohawks
tangled with Forest fans in the
overtime session.
Forest's surprise win: over
Strathroy Saturday night came

added a single in each of the
second and third periods. .
rIn Monday's game, Flyers led
4-2 in the first and widened their
margin to 6-2 before the Alerts
rallied.
Ben Gignac scored three goals
for Zurich. Other marksmen were
Bob Hayter, 13111 Rawlings, Don
and Doug O'Brien,
on Rocket's home ice. The. Lake
sides took .a 2-0 lead (is the first
period and although Stratbrox
tied it ' up in the third,. Forest
broke loose for three .goals to sew
up the contest.
•Goderich Sailors
Aren't That Good
NA/hawks didn't let Goderiek
Sailors beat them by the margin
what the score was.
The tribe held about 40 per-
cent of the play throughout the
game but offensive and defensive
mistakes made the -sore worse.
John Trendell was the only Mo-
hawk who hit the webbing. Mid-
way through the third, he knock-
ed in a goal .mouth pass from
Harry Mcl1wen who,bad retrieved
the rubber •from- the corner.
Plenty Of Chances
Mut Mohawks had plenty of
chances to score more goals.
Hard-working Bill Masser was
dogged with ill -luck: he had two
perfect opportunities but one shot
went over the net, the other jut
missed it. Other Mohawks helped
Gerry Hesse's goaltending record,
too, as the team remained in its
goalscoring doldrums.
Defensively. M o h a w k s were
minus the services Of Doug Smith
and the three lawn left for blue -
line patrol weren't enough to stop
the Sailors' onslaught.
Goderich defensemen outshone
the forwards in scoring. / Ken
Miller, the printer, had one of
his most prolific nights of the
season with two goals and an as-
sist. Bill Walsh• finished a beauti-
ful play with Bill McDonald for
one marker, assisted on another
and pioneered many potential at-
tacks. Big George Westlake scor-
ed the second goal of the game
with a high, hard shot which
caught the upper corner of the
net.
Ted Williams, Jack Reis and
Jack Walters scored the other
three Sailor goals,

By DOUG SMITH
Our Kids Hockey Festival, the
first of the year, was a howling
success from the viewpoint of
some 400 odd fans .and players.
Financially, we realized $80.00
from this, our first effort in a
drive to raise $300.00 to pay for
a medical examination for all
boys .participating in minor hoc-
key,
• Any project like this 'can only
he successful with plenty of vol-
untary help and co-operation and
this we had. For a very fine ex-
ample of co-operation I would
like to cite the case of Ernie
Dempster, of RCAF Centralia.
Friday night` was Cub night
and Ernie works with the Cubs at
Centralia. Many of the Cubs play
in our minor house league and
this presented a problem. Ernie,
who also 'helps with our hockey,
worked up a car pool and along
with the other leaders brought
in over 50 Cubs for our hockey
festival, at the same time pro-
viding an outing for the various
packs.
Five. good games of hockey
were witnessed. In the first game
the Penguins 'and Seals of the
Squee Gee League settled. for a
tis game and three cheers -a real
crowd pleaser.
In the second game, Blue Devils
bested last year's champs, Red
Devils, with a 4-0 game. Ronald
Oak, Fred Wells and Ted Arm-
strong were the Uig • guns, In one
of the best games of the evening,
Canadiens knocked off the Red
Wings 3-1 with Bob Jones, Ste-
phan and Bob Marriage leading
the way. Strang got the lone Red
Wing tally.
Frank Boyle with two goals
showed the way for the Leafs in
beating Rangers 3-0.
In the Bantam game, the best
of the evening, Tee Pees and
Flyers played to a 1-1 tie. Mor-
rissey was the goal getter for the
Tee Pees and Irvine for -1! lyers.
Those who were so unfortunate
to miss this hockey festival will
have one more opportunity to see
150 boys out there working So
hard to raise hinds to pay for
their medicals.
Next venture will be .collection
boxes in stores and a tag day,

more worries about cleaning their
rugs if they could' have seen
their husbands in aetidn. 13111
with three goals and Doug With
two and Otte assist led the Legion
clan to a 64 defeat over the
RCAF Corporals in the first
game. -
Tit the 'second game, "Red Line"
Parsons and "Stretch" Middleton
led the teenagers to a 4-2 win
aver the Mohawks in a very fast
game. Standouts for Mohawks
were Cushman, Doaks and `Bunny
Ford who used his firemen's
boots to good advantage in kick-
ing out 42 shots on goal.
The big fast moving Kinsmen
were downed by the Thames Road
Six. Captain Simpson was the big
gun for the winners with two
goals. Kinsmen have asked for
permission to use a two -platoon
system for the next game.
This week's schedule: 1-2, Mo-,

tured firemen and Dashwood in

Badn inton
With the co-operation of the
town council we hope to be play-
ing badminton in the town hall
next week. The idea of playing in
Seaforth petered out due to trans-
portation and baby sitter prob-
lems. A night or nights for :bad-
minton will have to be worked
out and scheduled around BB
gun club, Scouts, etc. The town
hall is used for court sessions,
council meetings, recreation meet-
ings, men's card club (with a
membership of over 30 elderly
gents every afternoon), drama
club, etc. It is good td see facili-
ties being used to the best ad-
vantage.,
