THE TIMES -ADVOCATE, EXIETER*, ONTARIO„ THURSDAY :MORNING, JANUARY 301 1950
Tribe Ready For
Jim "Bed" Loader fired his
charges through two bruising
workouts this week to get them.
in top shape for Friday night's
battle with the zooming Rockets
from Strathroy.
Faced with a !heavy schedule
of games when he took over, Red
wasn't able to get a practice with
the team until Sunday when he
put the Mohawks through an ex-
hausting workout. Tuesday night
the tribe engaged in another
heavy session and officials are
happy with the improvement of
the club.
Stopping the Rockets isn't go-
ing to be any easy chore. The
Strathroy squad, now in a seven-
game win streak, dumped power-
ful Goderich Sailors 7-5 Tuesday
night in a surprise upset, That's
the first time the .Sailors have
been torpedoed since early in the
season,
After Friday night's game with
Strathroy, Mohawks will play a
home -and -home series with Lu -
can Irish, leaders in Group Four
WOAA League, The team will
play mere Wednesday night and
return to the Irish arena Friday
night.
Loader's work with the tribe so
far has been encouraging. Mo-
hawks posted their first win in a
fortnight by shellacking Forest
10-5 Friday night. On Saturday,

the tribe lost a see -saw battle with
Rockets 5-3.
Rockets and Mohawks are now
tied, on their season's play. Both
teams have won one encounter
and they tied their first meeting
3-3. Friday night's contest should
give one club the edge.
Two Emms Goals
Defeat Mohawks
Balding Don Emms, the small
but supple playing -coach of the
Strathroy Rockets, personally am-
bushed the tribe Saturday night.
After Mohawks had roared back
in the third period to tie the
Rockets, Emms scored two un-
assisted counters to give his team
a 5-3 win.
It appeared that Mohawks
might have staged another final -
period win but for the thin -hatch-
ed Emms. Strathroy, after taking
a 2-0 lead in the first stanza,
scored in the second to take a 3-1
lead. Harry McEwen scored the
single Exeter goal after 16 sec-
onds of play in the period.
The tribe began its uphill fight
early in the third when Coach
Red Loader counted from Trendell
and Needham at 2,33. Pete Res-
telli tied the score at .7.07 on a
play with Frank Anderson.
Emms broke up the deadlock
With a beautiful rush from centre
ice which produced ,the winning
goal at 12.17 He scored the clin-
cher, again unassisted, at 18.57
when Mohawks were staging a
six -man attack. Emms hit the
empty net from centre ice.
.Only five penalties were called
in the game but neither team
scored when the other was short-
handed.

by Don Gravett, who posted a hat
trick, and another by playing-
coach Red Loader were counted
before the final bell rang.
Several factors contributed to
the outbrust. John Trendell, who
had to go to .Stratford for skates,
added a fresh drive when he join-
ed the team in the third, Shuff-
ling o1; lines which put Trendell on
right wing with McEwen and
Loader and Frank Anderson with
Restelli and Gravett began to pay
off; Loader's use of four and
five forwards in pressure spots
proved effective; four penalties
to the Lakesides kept them short-
handed,
