the Iron Curtain" at their meet-
ing in the parish hall on Tues
day.
Mrs. Rether's home was in
Transylvania, a smaU province
between Hungary and Roumania
in the. late 1990's and members
Of her family still live there, her
father being an importer. She told
of the hardships she encountered
as a child. in 1916 when she and
her family were forced to flee
from 'their homesduring the masa
destruction andconfisrcation of
the possessions of the wealthy,
Conditions were worse during
World War II and only by re-
ceiving letters in several differ-
ent languages, often with parts
of them deleted, did she learn of
the cruelties that were suffered
by her people,
Mrs. Rether's brother and a
sister were taken from their of-
fice and home and placed in con-
centration camps and have not
been heard from since.
There are more than 9,000,000
head of cattle on Canadian farms.

member of her family.
