To Peter Patterson, third in line of the Pattersons who have been :county engineers of Huron, the unpleasant weather that ac- companied` the opening ceremony had its element of symbolism. "The weather was against us when we were building this bridge," he said. "We built it anyway. The weather is against us today, but we're opening this bridge on schedule," Hurricane Hazel interfered while the bridge, biggest on the road system of a big county, was being built. The storms that came with Hazel did $18,000 worth of damage to the bridge building project, but did not stop the work, or appreciably delay its completion. No one but a Patterson has ever been county engineer in Hu- ron. By coincidence rather than by intention, the new Patterson Bridge is in the home neighbor- hood of the Patterson family.
