The animal ap­ proached to within fifteen feet of him where he. learned with dismay that the creature was a wolf. “We both remained in the same position for at least twenty minutes. ' Acquitted on Murder Charge Walkerton — The death last Feb. 25 of Evelyn Turner, Dresden, Ont., housewife, was accidental, in the op­ inion of a Bruce County jury which acquitted the woman’s husband, Wal­ ter Turner, of a charge of murder. The verdict concurred in defence con­ tentions she died in the fall of a woodpile. After nearly six hours’ deliberation, the jury reported to Mr. Justice J. C. Makins in supreme court that Turner was “not guilty of murder.” The jury had been instructed by Mr. Justice Makins the case “is either murder or it was accidental.” The verdict ended a four-day trial in which the defence contended Mrs. Turner was fatally in­ jured by wood from a pile in the Turned woodshed falling upon her as she lay upon the floor. The crown charged through expert witnesses that some heavy instrument had been used to cause her many injuries. The muzzle of the gun he was carrying became plugged with snow, and when fired the barrel exploded. One fragment inflicted a wound on the chin which required five stitches to close, and another piece went through his sweater and bruised his side. Three Rescued from Cave-In After digging feverishly for more than an hour, a rescue crew of 100 men from Linwood, Wellesley, Gads­ hill, Nithburg and the surrounding district, succeeded in rescuing alive three Perth County men who were caught beneath seven feet of earth and gravel in a gravel pit slide six miles south of Linwood Thursday. The rescued men are Gordon Sutter and Victor Riehl, of Gadshill, and Norman Harloff, of Rostock, all em­ ployed by Alex. Hartung, Gadshill contractor working on Perth County roads. Sutter suffered torn ligaments, I Clinton Woman Had 90th Birthday Congratulations are being extended to Mrs. Elizabeth Cluff, Clinton, who' Thursday entered her 91st year. En­ joying good eyesight and hearing and in good general health, she attributes her longevity to ‘hard work’ and add­ ed that she was one of a family of seven brought up in a pioneer’s farm home. She was born in Stanley Twpt and was married in Dec., 1870, After her marriage she lived in Goderich Township but for’ the past 19 years ha$ lived in Clinton. Exeter Organized Lions Club At a banquet in the Central Hotel a Lions Club for Exeter was organ­ ized with Dr. W. E. Weekes as the first charter president. The banquet was ’the result of some active work by Messrs. Earl Nichols and Roy Robinson, of the London Lions, in se­ curing over twenty charter members for an Exeter Club.—Exeter Times- Advocate. i Truck Accident What might have proved a serious accident occurred a short distance east of Lucknow when the Brown­ town Transport in charge of Douglas Black left the slippery highway and landed in the ditch.
