Mrs. Percy Vincent and her daugh­ ters, of Westfield, spent Sunday with the former’s mother, Mrs. McBrien. Rev. E. C. Wilford, returned mis­ sionary from China, had charge of the service in the United Church here on Sunday and gave a splendid talk on the problems confronting mission­ ary workers in that country. Mr. Wm. Purdon and Miss Mabel, and Mr. and Mrs. Aidin' Purdon and son, Billie, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ab. Cameron of Ashfield. Miss Bertha MacKay of Stratford spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hector MacKay. Mr. Millan Moore left on Monday with Mr. Gibson Gillespie to act as time-keeper for the Towland Con­ struction Co., working at Southamp­ ton. ■ Mrs. Holmes, who has been vis­ iting with relatives in Clinton, re­ turned home on Sunday, and Mrs. Williamson accompanied her and will visit here for a week. The W.M.S. of the United Churh held a tea at the home of Mrs. iMc- Brien on Tuesday and quilted a quilt. The regular meeting of the Wo­ men’s Institute will be held this Fri­ day in the Hall and the roll call is to be answered by naming a perennial flower, Mr. Patterson of Walkerton, the Agricultural Representative for Bruce, will be present and give an ad­ dress. A contest for the best cabbage salad will be held with Mrs. W. R. Farrier giving the prize. All the lad­ ies of the community are cordially invited to attend. # Men have been busy wiring the homes of Mr. J. F. McLean, Mr.’W. Barbour, Mrs. A^Fox and Mr. J. G. Gillespie. BELGRAVE' Showered by Friends A very pleasant ^vening'was spent Tuesday n'ight last week when a large number of friends and neighbors ga­ thered together in the Foresters’ Hall at Belgrave in honor of Mr. and Mrs. George Martin, who were married in September. A large number of-pret­ ty and useful gifts were presented to the newlyweds who each thanked the gathering for the remembrance and good wishes. The evening'was spent .in dancing and social chat. There was a good congregation with Several visitors from outside points, and an enjoyable service resulted. The speaker outlined the work iri China and spoke of the present sit* nation. ASHFIELD community was shocked on the son 9 th The Wednesday when we heard 'of passing of Clifford Blake, eldest of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Blake, Con., in his 19th year. He passed away in ■ London Hospital, from in­ fantile paralysis' He was,buried on Thursday morning in Greenhill Cem­ etery. The youngest son, Keith, nine years old, was taken to London Hos­ pital for a few days. Our sincere sympathy goes to the bereaved fam­ ily.
