Mr. Clifford Purdon, who has been working in the tobacco fields at Til- sonburg, spent Sunday at his home here, and when he returned to Til- sonburg,. J. C, Reed, Lawrence Hen­ derson, Howard Irwin accompanied him. Mr. Harry Bailey and Sandy Gibb of Wingham visited on Sunday at the home of Mr, and1 Mrs. Amos Cornel­ ius. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Lott, of Rip­ ley, moved on Monday to Mr. Dun­ can Kennedy’s chicken farm, and Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Gulley moved to ‘the house on Mr. Vint’s farm, west of Zetland. Mrs. Emerson, of Kincardine, visit­ ed last week at the home of Mrs. A. Emerson. ‘Mrs. Oliver McBrien and daughter, Doris, of Goderich, are visiting a few days this week with the former’s sis­ ter, Mrs. Jas. Laidlaw. Mr. and Mrs, Gordon MacKay and children, of Wingham, visited on Sun­ day at’ the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hector MacKay. Mrs. Chas. Stewart and daughter, Stella, of Lucknow, spent a few days1 last week with Mrs. B. S. Naylor. Mr. and Mrs. Skinner, of Centralia, were Sunday visitors at the home of John Mason, and Miss Mildred re­ turned with them to have a week’s holidays. Mrs. Hornibrook and daughter, of Dunnville, visited last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hector MacKay and other relatives in this community. Mrs.xNewey of Detroit, and her sister, Mrs. Austin, of Birm­ ingham, Eng., who visited, last week with Mrs. Bert Cullimore at the home of Mrs. Eme/son, returned to Detroit on Saturday. The regular monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held on Friday last at the home of Mrs. Ab. McQuillan with over 30 in attend­ ance. The meeting was in charge of the President, Mrs. Ezra Scholtz, and after the opening exercises and busi­ ness meeting, the following program was given. ( Mrs. Bert Reed read a paper on Cheerfulness. Mrs. Frank Henry gave an interesting reading. Miss Ruby Conn sang a solo, and Mrs. Scholtz.read a paper on Tem­ perance. Miss Janie McInnis gave a recitation. Mrs. Grain gave an inter­ esting reading “Tell It Now” and Miss Susan Carrick sang a solo. Mrs. Emerson gave a talk on Current Ev­ ents, and then interested everyone in contests. Lunch was served and all enjoyed the social half-hour. Bruce and Bob Nairs, who spent the past two weeks at the home of Mr. J. Gillespie, returned to their home in Toronto on Sunday. Mrs. Charleston and children, of Hamilton, are spending this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fal­ coner. Mrs. J. D. Beecroft and Jean Wel- wood spent two days last week in London with Florence at the Child­ ren’s Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson and Ernest visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Kilpatrick, of Luck­ now, and’Miss Ruth Wheeler of Mor­ ris is spending fhis week with Mrs. Robinson. S.. Hetherington, barrister, Wingham, the guest speaker was in­ troduced by the president and gave a very fluent address on “The Divorce Law of Canada” making it very clear to the listeners. He touched briefly on the marriage laws of other count­ ries and the traffic laws of Canada. Miss Jean Elliott gave some fine points on the motto: “Stop! Look! Listen!” The program throughout was on the subject of “Legislation” and was most profitable. At the close of the meeting the ladies enjoyed an "exhibit of quilts and quilt blocks, fol­ lowed by delicious Refreshments serv­ ed bw the hostess and Mrs. J. J. El­ liott. T Weiner Roast Enjoyed On Wednesday evening Aug. 11th the young people and teachers of the United Church Sunday School held a weiner roast on the river flats at Bluevale, The event culminated the Sunday school attendance contest, conducted among four classes, Senior and Junior boys and Senior and Jun­ ior girls, The contest being won by the girls classes, The boys groups were hosts at the weiner roast. A pleasbnt time spent in playing games and singing around a, roaring camp fire.
