SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY HELD Sunday School Anniversary was ob­ served in Gorrie United Church on Sunday and was enriched at both ser­ vices by the special speaker, Mr. Don­ ald McRae, son of Dr. and Mrs. T, J. McRae, of Brussels, who gave two very stirring messages to the large congregations. His morning discourse was taken from St. John’s Gospel and based on “Stop, Look and Listen”, and his evening sermon was from 1st Timothy and St. John 14. The officers of the Sunday School are to be congratulated on obtaining such a talented young man for the occasion, Special music was supplied by the Choir who were assisted by Mr. Jack Bates who sang “The Stranger of Galilee” at the morhing service and “Open the Gates of the Temple** at the evening service. Miss Rona VanVelsor of Weston spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. VanVelsor be­ fore leaving for the O.A.C. at Guelph where she ip taking the summer course in Agriculture. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hetherington of Toronto, spent a couple of recently with Mr. and Mrs. M. ers. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Rogers, troit, were recent visitors with Mrs. Geo. Paulin and family. Mrs. Paulin, who has spent the past week in troit, returned with them. Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Hemphill, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wearrihg family spent Thursday in London at the Cole Brothers’ Circus. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Denny spent Dominion Day at Orangeville where they attended the horse races. Mr. Alan Finlayson, of Toronto, vis­ ited on Wednesday of last wedk at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wearring, Mr. John Earner is at present a patient in a Toronto Hospital where he is undergoing' treatment. Mr. Tom Burke is building a house on the lot across the road from Mr, R. G. Gibson’s Shell Service Station. Mr. James Rae, of Brantford, and Miss Lowe, of Galt, are visiting with the former’s parents, Mt. and Mrs. D. W. Rae. Glen, little sori of Mr. and Mrs.» Harvey McMichael, underwent an op­ eration in the Toronto General Hos­ pital on Wednesday of last week. A number from here attended the Presbyteriari Church picnic held Oh Thursday in the Gorrie Park. Mrs. Archie Wells and daughter, Jean, and Miss Helen Gibson, of Tor­ onto, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wearring. The number of pupils writing ent­ rance at this centre was small in com­ parison with other years, there being only twelve. The presiding officer was Mr. H. Knight of the local Con­ tinuation School Staff. Mr. J. J. Allen is having some im­ provements made on his house. A new kitchen is being added which will be quite a convenience. Mrs. Eliza Parks has gone to work at the home of Mr. Delbert Clegg Gorrie. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Whiteman (nee Winnifred Rae), Belgrave, who were married on Wed­ nesday of last week. Presentation for Teacher A number of young people of Y. P. U. gathered on Wednesday even­ ing of last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Musgrove for a social time. After a friendly game of soft- ball the young folks retired to the house where games and music were enjoyed and a lunch consisting of wild strawberries and cream was serv­ ed by the hostess. Mr. Harvey Bry­ ans, who has resigned his position on the local Public .School Staff, and who has held the office of secretary in the Y.P.U. for the past year, was pre­ sented with the gift of a mirror, as a token of their appreciation of his services and their goodfellowship. The address was read by Mr. Kenneth Ed­ gar and Mr. Clifford Denny made the presentation. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Douglas (nee Miss Margaret Wright) who were married on Thurs­ day of last week. Mr. Andrew .Shearer of Sault. Ste.
