A program of musical numbers and
dialogues will be given in the Insti
tute Hall here on the 24th of March
under the auspices of the Young Peo-
Church visited on Monday evening
with the young people of the Presby
terian Church. A good program was
given, by members of both societies,
and games and contests were much
enjoyed. Lunch was served and a
social half-hour was enjoyed by all.

Miss Dorothy Pollock,
has been visiting with her

Mr, and Mrs. Al. Dowling and dau
ghter, Donna, of Hamilton, spent the
week-end with her parents, Mr, and
Mrs. Bert Reed.
Mrs. Fred Davidson received word
on Saturday of the sudden passing of
her cousin, Mr. Herbert Spencer of
Hamilton, a frequent -visitor in these
parts. He collapsed after a sudden
heart attack on Friday evening.
Mrs. Roy Patten of Lucan, spent a
few days last week at* the home of
her mother, Mrs. A. Fox.
Miss Euphemia Chamney was taken
to Wingham Hospital on Sunday. We
wish her a speedy recovery.
Dr. and Mrs. Wilfred Robinson, of
Drysdale, Northern Ont,, spent the
week-end here with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wm,. Robinson. Dr. and
Mrs. Harold Robinson and children
of Walkerton also visited his parents
on Sunday.
Miss Vera Cascmore returned to her
home in Turnberry on Saturday after
visiting for two weeks at the home of
her brother, Mr. Ernest Casemore.
Quite a number attended the social
evening in the United Church on Fri
day evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davidson were
at Fordwich last Tuesday attending
the marriage of her niece, Miss Annie
Mclllwain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Mclllwain to Mr. George Pit-
tendreigh, son of the late Mr. and Mrs
Pittendreigh of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Rev. MacDonald of Galt performed
the ceremony, assisted by the grooms
cousin, Rev. Mr. Carrick of Portland,
Oregon, who has been visiting with
friends in Galt.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Newman and
children and Mr. and Mrs-. Cecil Fal
coner motored to Hamilton on Satur
day and spent the week-end with rela
tives there. Mrs. Newman and child
ren will visit with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Hendershot for the next few
weeks.
Quite a number from this comniun-
nity attended the party at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack McInnis, of
Langside, who were celebrating the
tenth anniversary of their wedding.
They received many pretty and.use
ful gifts, and all report a good time.
Mr. and Mrs. Lance Grain visited
on Sunday with his mother, Mrs.
Grain, at Zetland, who has been con
fined to her bed since the New Year.
Quite a few from here attended the
funeral of the late Mrs. Lott in
'Wingham on Monday.

First prize was won by a children’s
quartette from Lochalsh, and little
Angus Mowbray, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robt. Mowbray carried off the sec
ond prize by playing ’‘Home on the
Range" on his violin. Mr .Bert Cul-
limore won 8th prize, .playing and
singing “A Winter Wonderland”, a'nd
little Ruby Conn, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Johnston Conn, of Kinloss,
won 9th prize, a pair of shoes, for
singing a nursery song. We congrat
ulate these amateurs on their success
ful efforts. There was a record crowd
at the hall, with 40 grand prizes be
ing awarded during the evening.
The young people of the United
The “Grandmother’s Day" at the re
gular monthly meeting pf the Wo
man’s Institute on Thursday afternoon
at the home of Mrs, Joseph Curtis
was a real social success. Mrs. J,
Wickstead presided and conducted a
short business discussion.
The Roll Call proved most interest
ing, when the ladies gave the name of
their grandmother, Her birthplace,
exhibited her .photo and in some in
stances this was accompanied by a
short family history.
Mrs. R, F. Garniss gave a good pap
er on the motto "Growing old Grace
fully”, pointing out that age is a state
of mind rather than a matter of years.
During the afternoon, little Miss Ei
leen Sparks presented Mrs. Joseph
Breckenridge with a piece of china.
Mrs. Breckenridge is the oldest grand
mother among the members and has
the largest family.
Miss Margaret Curtis conducted a
contest “Things our grandmothers
missed.”
Following the meeting, Mr§. Wick
stead and Mrs. Milton Smith assisted
the hostess to serve refreshments.

Honoured on Birthday
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Curtis was the scene of a happy gath
ering on Friday, when a birthday
party was held in honour of Mrs. Mar-
gai-'et Rolph, it being the occasion of
her 81st birthday. At the dinner party
were four generations. Mrs. Rolph,
Mrs. J. Curtis, Mrs. Harold Proctor
and daughter, Miss Margaret Proctor
of Belgrave. Others present were:
Mrs. Laura Kir ton, Harold Proctor
and Miss Hazel Stamper, whose birth
day falls on the same date.-

The above is one of the
Farmer’s Club was held on Tuesday
evening l^st week at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Procter, when there
was a good attendance present. The
first part of the evening was spent in
games. The directors held a meet
ing and further plans and arrange
ments were made for the mixing of
fertilizer. The program consisted of a
very interesting debate1 — Resolved
that rural hydro holds a higher posi
tion with the Ontario farmer than the
auto. The affirmative was upheld by
Stewart Procter and Dick Procter,
while the negative argument was pre
sented by James Michie and C. R.
Coultes. The judges, Rev. J. B. Town
end, Mrs. Earle Anderson and Robt.
Coultes gave their decision in favor
of the negative side of the debate.
Lunch was served and a social time
spent. The April meeting will be
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.
R. Coultes.

The President,, George Johnston
and vice president, Miss Jean Hou
ston look charge of the Y. P. U. meet
ing in the United Church on Friday
night. After the opening exercises,
and scripture reading, given by Ross
Smith, the regular business was con
ducted. Mrs.'Jim Johnston gave an
able address during the devotional
period and Miss Alice Thornton sang
a solo which was much appreciated.
After the meeting, Miss Jean Houston
took charge of -the games which were
much enjoyed.
A former resident of Bluevale,^Mrs.
Hugh Ross passed away last week at
her home in Kingsville after .some
weeks illness.
Mrs. Morrison who suffered a frac
tured hip, when she fell on the icy
road the last of December has return
ed to her home here from the General
Hospital, Wingham. She has made a
splendid recovery. Her nurse, Miss
Townend accompanied her home.
Miss Florence Fowler is visiting
friends in Seaforth.

Friends of Bernard Lillow, who was
a patient in the sick children’s hospital
Toronto for several weeks will be
glad to know that lie has returned
home. Two. serious operations were
performed and hopes are that he will
soon be back to normal again.
Mrs. Lottie Turvey and daughter,
R’ei'ta of Toronto were here over the
week end, attending the funeral of
Mrs. Turvey’s brother, the late J. H.
Sellars.
Mrs. Blanch Castello of Montreal is
visiting her brother, George Thornton
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Garniss spent
Monday with relatives in Seaforth.
Mrs. E. J. Sutton and Mrs. J. R.
Greig are spending a few days in Tor
onto.

day last visiting at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Mervin Templeman, and
with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hutchison,
who were celebrating the 30th anni
versary of their wedding. We wish
them many happy returns of their an
niversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira McLean and dau
ghter, Marilyn, of Brussels, spent
Sunday with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Fred McLean, and Mrs. Mc
Lean and her daughter are visiting for
a few days this week.

The Women's, Association of Knox
United Church held its regular meet
ing at the home of Mrs. J. B. Town
end on Wednesday afternoon with a
good attendance present. The ladies
spent the afternoon working at quilt
blocks. The president, Mrs. Carl
Procter was in charge of the meet
ing which was opened with the sing
ing of a hymn and prayer by Rev. J.
B. Towend. Scripture lesson was
read by Mrs. A. Vincent, Mrs, N.
Montgomery played violin numbers,
which was very much enjoyed. Elaine
Walsh accompanied at the piano. The
business was dealt with and the meet
ing closed. A tea cent tea was serv*
cd and much enjoyed.
