tor McKay will congratulate them on
the passing of the sixtieth anniversary
of their wedding. Of their eleven liv
ing children, five were unable
present, but all were together
two years ago. We wish them
returns of their wedding day.
Friends and relatives of Mrs. Wm.
Martin gathered on Monday at the
home of Mrs. Dan Martin, to cele
brate the eighty-first birthday of the
•former highly esteemed pioneer of
this district. We congratulate her and
wish her inanv more returns of her
birthday.
Mr. J. C. Reed, who has spent the
past few months in Hamilton with
'his sister, returned home last,week.
Mr, and Mrs, John Kilpatrick and
children of Lucknow spent Sunday at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Robinson of East Wawa-
nosh.
Quite a few in this community have
been laid up with flu during the past
week. x

Church have invited the Young Peo

day evening and presented their play,

with the former's parents, Mr, and

tha Mackay returned to Stratford with
them on Monday morning,

Church are holding a St, Patrick’s
social in the church this Friday ev
ening.
Mr. Jas. Laidlaw who has had a
sore foot for the past week, went to
Wingham Hospital, where Doctors
put it in a cast as the instep^was
broken.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clarke of Am-
herstburg spent Sunday with her
'father, Mr. Robert Carrick.
Mr, and Mrs. Ezra Welwood enter
tained a number of their friends and
neighbors in their home on Friday
evening last All report a good time.
Many friends and relatives of Mrs,
Ab. Cameron will extend sympathy
to her on acocunt of the sudden death
of her brother,
Dalhousie. A

The regular weekly meeting of the
Y. P.- U. of the United Church was
held on Monday evening with Mr.
Garnet Farrier in charge of the meet
ing. The different-parts of the scrip
ture lesson were taken by Mildred
and Doris McClenaghan and, Mrs. J.
Falconer .Miss Lettie Fox led in pray
er, and Mrs. Bert Reed sang, “Al
most Persuaded,” Mr. Bert Cullimore
gave a paper on the topic, “Actions
speak louder than Words," and Miss
Agnes Gillespie gave a reading. Miss
Genevieve Watt and Rev, H. M.
Wright led m prayer and after the
singing of a hymn, the meeting was
closed by repeating the society prayer
in unison.

the funeral of the late Mrs. Thomas
Miller, a former resident of this com
munity, in Lucknow ton Monday.
Mrs, R. J; Wood and Mr, Wilson
Wood, left on Saturday for a visit
with the former’s daughter at Fergus,
Guelph and Galt.
Mrs, Archie Anderson opened her
home for the March meeting of the
Women’s Institute, when there were
thirty ladies in attendance. Mrs, W.
A, Miller presided, and tile roll call
was responded to by a joke or an
Irish saying. It was decided to org
anize a class of girls to take the
spring project on. ’‘Clothes Closets.”
Mrs. T, J. Salkeld was appointed as’
leader of this, with Laurene Miller
as assistant. Annie Watson read an
article on the “Beginnig of the Wom
en’s Instittue” and the topic “How
can the Women’s Institute best serve
the community” was taken by Mrs.
E. W, Rice, Mrs. F. G. Todd, .Mrs.
Earl Durnin and Miss Annie Watson
were hostesses.

Presbyterian W. M. S.
The W. M. S. of Knox Presbyterian
church, met for regular session in the
church school room on Thursday af
ternoon. The President, Mrs. Alex.
Mowbray, presiding.
Correspondence was considered re
garding the Provincial W. M. S. to
be held in London, also nominees for
some Presbyterial offices>
Mrs. J. J. Elliott offered prayer.
Mrs. Raymond Elliott outlined the
2nd chapter of the Study Book. “The
Woman with the Needle.” Miss Flor
ence Fowler read the Scripture pas
sage, dealing with the life of Dorcas,
introducing the study chapter. The
study of the life of Bible Women is
making the meeting very interesting.
All repeated the Lord’s Prayer in
closing.
Ladies’ Aid
Mrs. Eldred Nichol presided over a
very well attended meeting of the
Ladies' Aid of the Presbyterian
Church on Thursday afternoon. Re
ports from the four circles showing
interest and activity. Several items of
business were disposed of, and plans
made for further work.

The regular monthly meeting of the
Steady and True Mission of the Unit
ed church, was held this week at the
home of the President, Mrs. A. V.
Robb, who conducted the opening ex
ercises, singing a hymn and repeat
ing the Apostles Creed in unison.
The vice president, Miss Rhoda
Robertson took charge of the .remain
der of the meeting. During the bus
iness period, Mrs. A. V. Robb and
Miss Alice Thornton were appointed
delegates to the Annual Presbyterial
meeting. Mrs. 'Alice Aitken was ap
pointed auditor. Miss Alice Thornton,
Miss Daisy Holmes and Miss Rhoda
Robertson were appointed a commit
tee to- arrange for the Easter Tea.

Association of the United Church. The
President, Mrs. Robert McLennon,
presided, and after singing “Take my
Life and Let it be consecrated Lord
to Thee ” the Lord’s Prayet was re

son read from two chapters in Matt.
The business period was devoted to
plans and arrangements for work in
the society.
Mrs. Edward Johnston gave a read
ing “It isn't the church” which great
ly interested all present. Mrs. Norman
Barnard favored with a solo, “The
Old Rugged Cross.” Rev. A. V, Robb
closed the meeting with prayer, fol
lowed fey refreshments served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Brecken
ridge.

Talk on Trip to Vancouver
The Y.P.U of the United Church
had an interesting meeting on Friday
night. Bill Pocock took charge after
the opening exercises, Douglas Ken-
read the Scripture lesson and Miss
Alice Thornton gave the topic. Mr.
Arthur Shaw then gave an interesting
description of his recent trip to Van
couver ,showuig pictures of the lovely
scenery among the mountains,

cepted a call to become minister of
St. Andrew’s .Church, Niagara-on-the-
Lake. Rev. Mr. McKerroll, a past
Moderator ci the Presbyterian Church
in Canada, recently resigned his
charge of Victoria Presbyterian
Church, Toronto, where he labored
for 27 years. Previous to that he was
minister of the Presbyterian Church
at Lttcknow.
