S. of Whitechurch United Church, to attend a meeting on Nov­ ember 3rd to hear Miss Mitchell, the Field Secretary give her report on the work in the Western provinces. The Young People’s' Society of the Maitland Presbyterial held their an­ nual Rally in Whitechurch Presbyter­ ian Church on Friday last. Mr. and Mrs. George Mowbray and family, of Seaforth, visited on Sun­ day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Leggatt. Mr. J. B. Newberry and son, Jack, of Toronto, spent the week-end with Mr. Ken. Paterson. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gulley also Mr. and Mrs. Amos Cornelius spent Sun­ day at the home of Mr, Frank Kelly, St. Augustine. Mrs, A. Mr. Fallahay is at present seriously ill in Toronto General Hospital. Mr. James Weir of London spent last week-end here at the home of his parents, Mr .and Mrs .Fred Dav­ idson. Miss Hazel Hybine, of Listowel, spent a few days last week at the home of Mr. Thos. Henderson. Mr. Fallahay, brother-in-law of Mr. 'Charles and Mr. James Martin, is seriously ill in Toronto Hospital. Quite a,number from here attended Anniversary services in St. Helen’s United Church on Sunday. The serv­ ice here was withdrawn. ‘ Preparatory service will be held in ■the United Church here on Thursday evening and the induction service for the elders will take place then, also. Mr .and Mrs. Flute^andstlieir three sons of Toronto ,and/Miss Mary Weir of the Whitby Hospital Staff, spent the week-end at the home yof the lat­ ter’s parents, Mr. atid iW Fred Dav­ idson. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Guant and children of Marnoch, were also there. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Joe Chamney has been suffering from a stroke during the past week. We hope her condition improves quickly. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson re­ turned this week from a visit with Dr. and Mrs. Wilfred Robinson of Dryden. Mr. Bert Cullimore spent the week­ end at Glamis with Mr. Emerson Col­ well. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Farrier and BELGRAVE Sanderson at London. Mr .and Mrs. James Master and daughters, of Parkhill, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Hall. Mrs. Flo. Bensley of London, Eng­ land is the guest of her friend, Mrs. J. J. Sellars. Fell and Mrs. Joseph Breckenridge attended the funeral of their cousin, the late An­ son Deimage of Toronto, which was held on Tuesday last week at Har­ riston. The Short Course sponsored by the Belgrave Women’s Institute was well attended and proved to be both in­ teresting and instructive. The work was in charge of Miss Jessie Lamb­ den of Tilsonburg. ’ Plan Xmas Tree The .teachers and officers of Knox United Church Sunday School met at the home of Mr. Norman Keating and made arrangements in appointing committees for different parts of the work in preparing ofr the Christmas Tree. The date set was Wednesday evening .December 23rd. A large number of cattle were ship­ ped to Toronto on Saturday. Some feeder cattle were also moved. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Coultes, Jim and Mabel attended a family re-union at the home of Mrs. Fred Reid at Varna on Saturdajr evening. Mrs. R Yule and Berna are visitors with friends at Tulsa, Oklahoma. Young People Hear Address Rev. Goodfellow of B. C. Home Mission Work addressed the Young People’s Society in Knox Church on . Wednesday evening and told of his 1 work in .that part of Canada. Jas. Mc­ Crea sang a solo. George Martin pre­ sided during the meeting. Presbyterian Church Anniversary Services Successful Anniversary Services were held by Knox .Presbyterian Church here on Sunday last, the prea­ cher for the occasion being the Rev. J. M. McCurlie, B.A., of Atwood, who delivered splendid and inspiring mes­ sages to large congregations both morning and evening. Calvin Choir, under the able leadership of Mrs. J. McGee, and to whom Knox Church feel deeply indebted, led in the serv­ ice of praise. In addition to several anthems, a solo by Miss Doris Scott in the morning and a ladies’ quar­ tette, Misses A. Institute Course off to Good Start The five day short course in “Food and Nutrition” “Meal Planning and Preparing” sponsored by the Wom­ an’s Institute and in charge of Miss Jessie Lambden of Tillsonburg, got off to a good, start on Monday after­ noon, with fourteen members enlisted. BELMORE There was no service in the United Church, Sabbath afternoon, Annivers­ aries at McIntosh attracted a large crowd. Miss Velma Baiers of Gome and Mr. Baiers Sr. are assisting norman Baiers at the general store. Out of the village Mrs. George Herd; Mr. Tackaberry, Miss Mildred of Lions Head ,in Toronto. Miss Mary and Hannah Stokes have returned from a week’s visit with, their brothers on the tenth, and Mys. Ap­ pleton, Glenannan. There was an attendance of about thirty members and visitors at the meeting of the Women’s Institute last Wednesday at’ the home of Mrs. Mas­ on McAllister. The President, Mrs. Gus Kinahan, presided, and led in the discussion of current events. The roll call “How to Avoid the Common Cold” brought many helpful hints and suggestions. Further plans were made for the short course on “Health Edu­ cation which will be held in 'Novem­ ber in Donnybrook School. A splen­ did' paper was given by Mrs. Mark Armstrong on the training of children in the home. Community singing was enjoyed. A contribution by the mem­ bers of fruit and pickles for the child-, ren’s shelter was received. The Y.P.S. will hold their regular meeting on Friday evening. Rev. Mr. Gardiner of Londesboro will preach at Donnybrook next Sun­ day as Rew Mr. Wilson is taking charge of the anniversary services at Constance. Miss Virginia Chamney, of Goder­ ich, is spending a couple of weeks with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Chamney. Shiell intro­ duced the new Study Book, “Men and Women of Far Horizons”. She gave a geographical sketch of the part of the world connected with the first chapter, also gave some of the out­ standing stories of Missionaries in these parts.
