S, and Mrs. Jones were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. V. ’Holmes over the week-end and also visited other friends in the parish, Mr, Dick Jones was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wade. Mrs. Jack Toner, of Tor­ onto, are spending this week at the former’s home here, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Toner have re­ turned home after visiting friends in Manchester, N.H., .Panama, N.Y., and Napance, Peterboro and Toronto. The Presbyterian Anniversary here is being held on Scp.t. 27th. The spec­ ial speaker will be Rev. C. H. Mc­ Donald, of Lucknow. The choir and quartette from Lucknow are suplying special music. Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Jas. Gamble, at Tisdale, Man., on Aug. 19th, at the age of 52 years, following a lengthy illness. Her husband, who was a former Gor­ rie boy, will have the sympathy of a large number of friends. Mr. W. J. Gamble and Mrs. A. E. Toner and Mrs. John Hyndman arc his sisters and brother. The deceased leaves her husband, one son of Kenora, and her aged mother, to mourn her passing. Only one case was listed to be heard at the court, which met here last week that case being one be­ tween Gorrie Cemetery Board and Mr. John Rutledge, of Brampton. The former' were successful in winning their suit. 5^ • -' th Friday, Sator. ©Ct. 0 3 INSTITUTE HELD REGULAR MEETING Will Have Booth at School Fair , The regular monthly meeting of the Gorrie Branch of - the Women’s Institute met at the home of the Sec­ retary, Mrs. Everett Sparling, on Wednesday afternoon last week with a large attendance. The President, Mrs. C. Gregg, was in the chair, and opened with the Ode and Lord’s Pray­ er in unison. Following the minutes, which were approved as read, items of business were transacted, one of which was the concluding of plans of plans for the booth at the school fair which is being held here on Thurs­ day, Sept. 24th. Roll call was responded to by a sample of your favorite jam or jelly, relish or marmalade, and the recipe for same. This item on the program was responded to heartily, and each gave her favorite pickle recipe. The guest speaker, Mr, Harold Purdon, of Lucknow, Wcar-Ever Al­ uminum' representative, gave a very interesting address at the conclusion of which he served a dinner, which too, was enjoyed by all. The meeting dosed with the Na­ tional Anthem. Harrieton St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Gor­ rie Was beautifully decorated on Sun­ day with flowers, vegetables and plants for the Annual Harvest Home Services which were conducted by the former rector, Rev, R< S, Jones of St. David’s Church, London. A good at­ tendance was present, and a spirit of Thanksgiving and praise reigned throughout the service, with special hymns and a suitable and well ren­ dered anthem was sung by the choir. Mr, Jones expressed his pleasure in being able to take the Harvest Home Services in his old parish, and meet old friends once more. He took as his text, St, Mark, 4th chapter, ver­ ses 28 and 29, and preached a very impressive sermon, likening our life to the growth of the seed; and also our dependence and influence one on the other} and that life is never, sat­ isfying or full without religion and the’love of God in our hearts. Mr. Geo. Town, a former resident of this place,, passed away Saturday afternoon in Wingham at the home of his son Harry. The funeral service was held in the Wroxeter Anglican Church, Monday afternoon o’clock. Interment was Wroxeter Cemetery. Mrs. Allan Munro, went an operation for Hamilton Hospital, is expected home this week. Mr. and Mrs. W. G, Gallaher and Miss Maud Higgins of Gorrie were guests of Mr. and Mrs." F. Kitchen on Sunday. The annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service of St. James Anglican Church was held on Sunday evening when Rev. R. S. Jones of St. David's Church, London, a former rector, was nresent to conduct the service.
