Miss Margaret Graham left on Fri­ day for Toronto, where she will con­ tinue her studies, Mrs. Joseph Wood of Clifford spent the week-end with her daughter, Mrs. Earl Toner and Mr. Toner. Mrs. John Wylie and daughter, Bessie, accompanied Rev. George Wylie of Benmiller to Toronto' last week, where they visited friends, Miss Bessie Remaining to take up her work as teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cockburn of Guelph and Miss Grace Mogridge of Galt were guests of Mr, and Mrs. Victor Shera‘on Friday. * Miss Jean Fydell left on Sunday for Bramption where she will attend high school. Mrs. Watson and family moved their household effects to Brussels on Saturday where they will make their home. Their many friends will wish them every success. Mr. James Fydell left on Sunday for his school at O’Brien. Mr. Edgar of Galt is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Edgar and other relatives in the community. Institute Tp Meet September 9 The regular monthly meeting of the Gorrie Branch of the Women’s Institute will . meet on Wednesday, September 9.th, at the home Of Mrs. Everett Sparling. Roll Call will be answered by a “sample of your new relish and the receipt.” There will be a demonstration on canning. Visitors always welcome. Miss Clara King of Toronto is spending this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest King. Another guest at the same home was, Mr. Per­ cy Colmer of Toronto. Gibson - Robinson A pretty wedding took place in St. Paul’s United Church, Dundas, when Miss Edith Lydia Robinson, daugh­ ter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick M. Robinson, became the bride of‘ Dr. Thomas G. Gibson, of Hamilton, son of Mrs. Gibson and the late Mr. Masses of gladioli in pastels decked the aisles and the altar. Rev. W. E. Vipond officiated. Entering the church with her father, who gave her in marriage, the bride was beautiful in a robe of white satin. The long train was from the shoulders, caught at the waistline and falling’’to court length. Sleeves of tl,ie gown carried otit its medieval note of simplicity and were tight-fitting with points over the hands. Clouds of filmy net formed the veil, which fell from a cap of Brussels lace that was arranged with a bandeau of pearls. A bouquet of yellow tea roses completed the, en­ semble. Two attendants, gowned in delphinium blue, were. Miss Mary Robinson, of Dundas,' sister of the bride, as maid of honor, and Miss Margaret Campbell, of Dundas, as bridesmaid. Fashioned with smart three-quarter jacquetteSj flowing skirts, the gowns were of taffeta, with picture hats to match. They carried bide delphiniums with yellow freezia. Mr. Kenneth Gibson, of Hamilton, brother of the groom, was grooms­ man, and ushering were Mr. Warren Robinson, Dundas, a brother of the bride, and Dr, R, E. Nicholson, Ham­ ilton. Strachan, her son, Dugul Strachan, Brussels, and daughter of Detroit, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs Peter MacEwen. Mr. Win. Lowe, Bracebridge, was a week-end guest of Mr, and Mrs. Alex. Wright, Mr. ’and Mrs. Alvin .Moffatt and family spent the week-end in Tor­ onto. Mr. and Mrs. N. T. McLaughlin and son, Jack, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. MacEwen spent Tues­ day of last week at the home of her mother, Mrs. D. Strachan, Brussels, when with other members of her fam­ ily and a few friends, Mrs. Strachan's 89th birthday was celebrated. Mrs. Strachan is in fairly good health and many from this community who know her, join in good wishes for many happy returns of the day, Mt Andrew Shearer left on Wed­ nesday of last week for Sauli Ste. Fourth Line Circle The Fourth Line Croup Ladies’ Aid held their meeting on Thursday of last week at the home of Mrs. Mc­ Tavish. The President, Miss Flor­ ence Fowler, presided and opened by a hymn followed by prayer. The Scripture reading was taken by Mrs. J. Elliott. The afternoon was spent in quilting by the nineteen members and visitors. At the close refresh­ ments were served by Mrs. McTavish. Women’s Institute Mrs. J. J. Allen opened her home on Thursday last week for the Aug­ ust meeting of the W. I. at which there was a splendid attendance. The president, Mrs. J. Adams, pre­ sided and opened with the Ode fol­ lowed by the Lord’s Prayer in uni­ son . The motto for the day was read by Mrs. M. Sellers. During the busi­ ness session plans were made for the coming meeting at which the. Depart­ ment speaker will give an address. The Roll Call, A Notable Event in the Past Year, brought an interesting response. A demonstration on Put- mum’s Dye was conducted, by Mrs. J. J. Allen, who in a very thorugh and interesting way, told of the many uses of the dye pot, demonstrating the dyeing of chiffon and cotton. She was ably assisted in her experiment by Mrs. R. Rae, Mrs. J. N. Allen, Miss Lily Waller, Mrs. B. Martin and Mrs. J. Adams, who exhibited dyed cot­ ton, silk hose, lace curtains, also a blouse from which all the color had taken and was tinted again, also cot­ ton, silk and linen, which had been whitened by a product of PutmmVs Dye Co. Altogether the tion was most interesting and help­ ful. Refreshments were served by hostess assisted by Mrs. C. White and Miss E. MacEwen. The Natioxn* al Anthem brought the meeting to close. Miss Beatrice Howe has returned to Leamipgton to resume school dut­ ies after spending her vacation at her home here. Harvest Thanksgiving Service will be held in St. James’ Anglican Church here on Sunday, Sept. 13th, when Rev. R. S. Jones, of St. David’s Church, London, will be present to conduct the service. ‘ SALEM Mr. Charlie Scott of Wingham spent the week-end with Mr. Donald. Fortune.
