Med ical examination revealed one broken rib and though he is suffering from chest pains, no serious complications are expected. Hastie and baby Bobbie returned to Toronto with them where the latter is receiving treatment from a children’s specialist. Little Edith Hastie is staying with her aunt ,Mrs. Wilf. Kirig the past week. Mrs. Gordon Johnson of Guelph was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. S. Munro on Fritjay last. Mr. and 'Mrs. Thomas Bradnock spent Thursday and Friday last with friends in Woodstock. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Clegg of Fontiac, Mich., spent the week-end with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clegg. Mrs. Armstrong, who has been vis iting her sister at Teeswater, return ed home on Friday. Three classes of the United church Sunday School, of which the teachers are Mr. Norman Clegg, Mrs. Fydell and Mr. R. H. Stephens enjoyed a picnic at Port Elgin on Friday last. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mrs. Hilton Ashton presided over a fine program. After a hymn, Mrs. Leonard Ruttan led in prayer, and Mrs. Richard Car- son took the Scripture lesson. Mrs. H. Ashton gave a talk on an associat ed Helpers meeting. Last year’s re port of this department was presented by Mrs. Ramage. Miss Jean Heibein favored with a piano solo, and Mrs. Cook read an article on “ All people’s church” in Edmonton. A pleasing variation from, the regular study of Africa was introduced by Mrs. Anson Ruttan in her excellent talk on the infancy of the mission station at Chis- samba in Portugese, West Africa. Two Missionaries for special pray er, Rev. and Mrs. Merrill Ferguson are now at Chissamba. Mrs. Ruttan was personally acquainted with the late Dr. Moffatt, who established the station in 1899. She told many Inter esting stories told by him when he visited his childhood home some years ago. He .had to win the strange natives by love, friendship, the music of his violin, and the power of his medicine kit, all used -for God’s div ine purpose. Dr. Moffatt’s favorite hymn "Anywhere with Jesus” was the appropriate duet then sung by Mrs. Pyke and Mrs. Watson. Mrs. Sanford Zimmerman then read "The Great Physcian now in near”, a story of the peaceful crossing of the bar of a little Indian boy at a western mission school. Mrs. Heinmiller, her ald for India, told two interesting stories from the field there, Mrs. Nel son Gowdy read a lovely poem "At the end of the Road.” The president, Mrs. R. Ashtort con ducted the business session and Mrs. Carson's minutes approved. . Mts. Cooke reported for the bale sertt last month and Mrs. Wylie gave the fin ancial report. Mrs. Whitfield, tn her Christian Stewardship period, defined the W. M. S. as Women’s work for women and children. CONFIRMATION SERVICE AT ST. , JAMES CHURCH Confirmation Service was held in St. James Church on Sunday evening, when Bishop Seager, of London, was present to conduct the service, assist ed by Rev. A. H. O’Neil. The Church was nicely decorated with orchids and other spring flowers. Sixteen candidates were presented for Confirmation. The Bishop chose as his text, Matt. 5: 8. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see our God.” and delivered a most in spiring address. Miss Evelyn Gamble of Fordwich, soloist of the evening sang, “I heard the voice of Jesus,” of Toronto, called on old friends on; July 1st Miss Eunice Hakney, of Toronto^, spent the day with her mother. Mr. Isaac Stokes suffered a sever© loss the past week when his entire stock of horses except one pony, W&5 wiped out. It is thought the cause was eating western grain that had; been treated for grasshoppers. While trucking hogs to Hamilton Thursday last Mr. James McNeil’s truck left the road near Fergus, Cecil and Jim got off with bruises and cuts, from broken glass, but the truck re cently purchased and painted, was al most beyond repair, Mr, and Mrs, Thompson and Allan.’ left for their new home at Old Wynd ham on Tuesday. Mr. Walker Bush from near Wrox eter spent last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Palmer. The Garden Party held here at the Church on Monday evening of last week was a success in every way. The supper was all that could be desired, r The play "Let Polly Fix It,” pre sented by the Belmore young people was well rendered and appreciated by all those present. The proceeds were $80.00. ' The Salem Young People gave their play entitled "Too Many Parents.” at the Bluevale Garden Party last Fri day night. Misses Hazel and Minnie Weir who teach in Toronto, are spending their vacation with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Weir. It is with deep regret that the peo ple of this community learned of the death of Mr. Geo, Paulin on Monday evening after an illness of a few weeks, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Rae, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Rae, Miss Winttifred Rae, Mr, Jim Rae of Brantford and Mr, and Mrs. Wm, Rae and children' of Waterloo, attended the Robertson re* Ministers and Choirs Exchange Sunday evening service in United Church was of special interest when Rev. J, Button and choir of Fordwich took charge of the service. Mr. But ton spoke on the words "Behold My Hands”, Mr. Harry Sansom sang Tennyson’s "Crossing the Bar”, while Mr. Austin Stinson sang “The Gar den of Prayer.” Rev. A. M. Grant with his choir under the leadership of Mrs. George Allen, took charge of the service in Fordwich United Church.
