Under the Community Cen-
tre's Grant, Vanastra is ap-
plying for further grants that
are available, For indoor pools
$15,000; for community centres,
$10,000; and for athletic field
approximately $3,500.
The LIP Grant (Local
Initiatives Program) for winter
employment has been approved
for $24,814. This will cover
labour costs on the construc-
tion of the swimming pool roof.
Carpenters, masons, elec-
tricians and general labourers
will be employed when con-
struction work is usually
scarce.
This grant money must be
spent prior to May 31, 1975 ac-
cording to regulations.
Total approved grants are
$79,814 and grants being ap-
plied for are $28,500. Vanastra
is showing the government is
confident in our community to
support us in this way.
Previously, I have reported
on the curling club. The second
draw will be made up the first
week of January. The rates will
be reduced to new curlers if you
begin .January 1975. Contact

On Saturday, December 7,
the recreation and Pool Lottery
Committees sponsored a dance
at the Clinton Arena, The
highlight was the draw for the
1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
Maitland authority

Grants
A Day Care Study in
'Vanastra in the summer of
1974 indicated interest in full
time day care, 18; part,time
day care, 20; and nursery for
preschool children, 23. The sur-
vey is with the Ministry of
Community and Social Ser-
vices.
The day care grant for
Vanastra of $55,000 has been
approved. The money will be
used to renovate the Com-
munity Centre where Day Care
and Nursery for Vanastra and
area will be held as well as
Community functions, sports,
and club organizations. The
grant will provide an improved
heating system, kitchen
faeilities, improvements CO
meet health and fire
regulations.
Architectural plans have been

The Maitland Valley Conser-
vation Authority expanded.
Monday to include about two-
thirds of Goderich township,
giving the authority its first
Lake Huron shoreline.
The 28 square miles in the
northern portion of the town-
ship contains eight miles of
shoreline • south of Goderich,
giving the authority about a
2,000 square-mile jurisdiction.
Resource manager Ian
Deslauriers said the new
territory, includes 11 small
creeks which flow into the lake
but which provide major
erosion problems in their
gullies.
By joining the authority, the
township will be eligible for

The election of the 1975
Beard of Directors for the
Vanastra Community
Association was held December
4, They are president, Kelly
•Gonie; vice-president, Dick
13riece; sec. treasurer, Velma
King; directors-Vic Evans,
Robin Gates, Clem Goulding,
Glenda Littlechild, Hary Ham-
mond and Ron Gonie; youth
directors, Sam Russo Jr., and
Wayne Fulcher,
The Association voted to sup-
port the Clinton Centennial at
Carnival time with a float for
the parade and snowmobile
trail rides on another day.
Recreation in Vanastra
Vanastra residents and
property owners in both
residential and commercial
areas supported the formation
of a Recreation Committee for
Vanastra in the Spring of 1974.
Eighty seven percent (87%l
favoured the proposal and tax
levy to pay debentures of
$130,000.00 for recreation. An
example of what this meant for
Vanastra homeowners is that
on a single family dwelling,
depending on assessment, a
levy of $17.50 would be added
to the annual tax bill. Only
Vanastra property owners pay
this levy, not others in. Tucker-
smith township.
On April 16,1974 the Tucker-
smith township council appoin-
ted a seven man committee.
The Community Centre, for-
merly the Protestant Chapel,
and the Curling Arena were
purchased for $70,000.00 (or
$35,000 each) from 260303
Holdings Ltd.
Volunteers from the com-
munity worked many hours to
provide creative playground
equipment, wading pool, 10 pic-
nic tables and clean-up and
painting of existing park
property. Special thanks to Ron
Gonie, Vic Evans, Sam Russo,
Robin Gates, Eldon King, Bob
Argyle. Bernie Bryan, Duane
Hackenbrooke and the many
others. The Base Factory

and supplied paint and stain
for the undertaking.

An August . 10, swimming
began under the director of Vic
Evans, our water safety co-
ordinator. Mr. Evans donated
many hours to pool
management, In September
several children completed
courses at various levels of
swimming.
John Duddy organized the
Tennis Club for Vanastra and
District. This summer 44 mem-
bers enjoyed the club facilities.
A summer crafts and
Playground Program, free to all
Vanastra children was held
each afternoon for July and
August.
The 'Vanastra Recreation
Committee supplied the equip-
ment for the softball program.
Volunteers who organized the
men, women, boys and girls
ball teams were: Ken Herman,
Dave Nichols, Peter Hendrie,
Lois Herman, Bonny Logten-
burg and Val Hendrie.
