Carmen Gross was in tharge of the meeting and vened with two Christmas )oems followed by prayer. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by Mrs. Lloyd Penfound The members decided not to hold a meeting in December. The financial statement was given by Mrs. Lloyd McClin- chey and she stated that the Korean foster child's care was paid up to the end of February. Plans were made for the January meeting when Mrs. Henry Hunking and Mrs. Lloyd Penfound will be in charge cif the program and Mrs. Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Ronald Gross will be the lunch commit- tee. The prize that was donated by Mrs. Roy Daer was won by Mrs. Henry Hunking. The club members are helping at Huron- pview the second Wednesday in December and those who can go are to contact Mrs, Ted Hunking. An interesting demonstration on how to wrap and decorate Christmas parcels and how to make Christmas decorations was done by Mrs. Carmen Gross and Mrs. Thomas Cun- ningham. Lunch was served by Mrs. Henry Hunking and Mrs Lloyd Penfound. COMMUNITY NEWS Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Fordyce Clark in the death of her mother, Mrs. Amos Stoll who passed away in Goderich hospital on November 30. Correction-I am sorry that he name of William Wagner, a rother of the late Walter agner, was omitted from the bituary last week. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Morley f Ailsa Craig visited last aturday with her brother, Ben amilton and Mrs. Hamilton. The al executive is very grateful to the canvassers for giving their time to this worthy work, KNOX UCW The general meeting of the United Church Women of Knox United Church was held in the Sunday sehnol room of the church last Wednesday evening at 8:15 p.m. Unit 3 was in charge. The theme of the meeting was Stewardship, Mrs. Kenneth McDougall presided and opened the meeting. Scripture was read by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer, This was followed by a reading on Stewardship by Mrs. McDougall. Rev. Garnet Potter led in prayer, At this time Mrs. Gerald McDowell read an address and Miss Nancy Anderson on behalf of her mother, Mrs. Oliver An- derson and herself, presented Mrs. Beth Lansing with a life membership pin and certificate of the United Church Women. Beth expressed her sincere thanks• for the honor which was given her. A duet was sung by Lorraine Chamney and Doris Naylor.. The offering was received by Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett and Mrs. William de .Jong and dedicated. Mrs. Gordon Gross gave an appropriate reading entitled "Changeable November." The guest speaker, Rev. Gar- net Potter, spoke on the theme of the meeting Stewardship. He introduced his topic by reading Luke 12, 13-21. Following a short talk, three groups were formed. Each group was given a question based on the scripture which had been discussed. This proved very interesting. President Mrs. Gerald McDowell presided for the business. She opened by reading a poem. The minutes of the last general meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. Beth Lan- sing. The treasurer's report was, read by the treasurer, Mrs. Norman McDowell and was ac- cepted as read. It was decided to have the meetings in ,the afternoon for the winter months. The Christ- mas meeting will be' held on Wednesday, December 11 at 2 p.m. The Executive will be in charge. Reports from the various committees were given. It was decided to have four general meetings and two Thankof- fering meetings during the next year. Rev. Mr. Potter pronounced the benediction. FAMILY NIGHT Around 125 enjoyed, the family night dinner last Friday evening in the Auburn Com- triunity Memorial hail when the Auburn Women's Institute and the Horticultural Society held their Christmas party. The hall was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season with the brightly lit tree on the platform done by Mrs. William L. Craig, Mrs, Harry Brawley, Mrs, Kenneth Scott and Mrs. Beth Lansing, Mrs. Haggitt, Mrs. Elmer Trommer, Mrs. Frank Raithby, Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Mrs. Russel Brindley, Mrs, John Durnin and Mrs, Jessie Naylor were in charge of the dinner and Mrs. Donald Cartwright Mrs. Kenneth McDougall, Mrs, Robert Arthur and Mrs, Lawrence Plaetzer assisted later in the evening. Following the bountiful smorgasbord dinner, Mrs, Haggitt 'thanked all those who had helped and introduced the newcomers of "the community who were guests. A piano duet was played by Misses .Jayne Ar- thur and Doris Naylor. A monologue, The Shopping List was done well by Douglas Glousher. Mrs. Celia Taylor led the singing of Christmas Carols with Mrs. Catherine .Jackson at the piano. Rev, Garnet Potter told the true story of Edith Taylor for his inspiring Christ- mas message. COMMUNITY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Glen' Younghlut, .Jennifer and -John of Ottawa spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Munro. Mrs. Elmer Trommer spent a couple of days last week with her father Mr. H. Odhert and sister, Miss Lily Odhert at Stratford. Mrs. Arnold Craig is a patient in Wingham hospital. Following the release issued on October 24 in which con- sumers were warned of possible dangers in using antifreeze preparations other than those for which engine cooling systems are designed, the Federal minister of consumer and corporate affairs, Andre Ouellet, last week announced that he has taken action under the Hazardous Products Act to prohibit the sale of petroleum distillate based antifreeze preparations for use in vehicles' engine cooling systems. ':Antifreeze preparations containing high percentages of petroleum distillates, can cause rapid deterioration of cooling system hoses", Mr. Ouellet said. "when this occurs, the petroleum could he sprayed onto an engine manifold .and-• ignite, causing a serious fire. The inclusion of such products under the Hazardous Products Act provides for seizure by department inspectors of any petroleum distillate based an- tifreeze preparations that may be offered for sale currently or in the futpre", he added.„ HURON ST, CLINTON Fake anti-freeze problem I IALF SOLE.
