Both plazas to be .Guilt:
In a' closed meering Tuesday evening in
Goderich, town council and Goderich
Township Council hammered out At corn.
promise that leaves Rockledge Properties
Limited and Suncoast Estates free to build
their shopping plazas ., . and gives
Rockledge Properties time to catch up to ,
$uncoast Estates as far as preparation of
the site is concerned.
From now on it is 'every developer for
himself ,„„, and may the best One win.
All legal actions on the part of the Town
of Goderich and the Township of Goderich
will be withdrawn as of noon today (Thur,.
sday),
The town will withdraw its bid to deter-
mine the validity of the Rockledge building
permit issued November 29, 1973 for a
shopping plaza on Highway 8 just east of
Goderich.
The township will withdraW its appeal
against recent Ontario Municipal Board
hearings in Goderich• which paved the way
for Suncoaat Estates to begin work on their
plaza on Highway 21 south.
And in order to put both developers at
equal advantage on the starting line,
Goderich Town Council has agreed not to
issue the building -permit to Suncoast
Estates until noon on Friday, November
29, Interestingly enough, that was the date
exactly one year ago that Rockledge
received their building permit and the Hon.
John White ordered the freeze on Goderich
and Colborne Townships.
The meeting on Tuesday night 'was at-
tended only by members of the two councils
and Town Administrator Harold Walls. No
legal advisors were present.
It is understood the members of both
councils had a frank and open discussion
about the developments in the• past year
and that the compromise was reached to
the satisfaction of all in attendance,
The ,Signal-Star was in contact with
Rockledge spokesman, Cord Smith early
Wednesday morning.
"We will proceed with all haste after
noon on Thursday," said Smith.
He feels the three week delay in issuing a
building permit to Suncoast Estates will
provide his company time to complete the
necessary steps toward construction, He
said Rockledge would be finalizing plans
for their plaza in the next few days.
Bert Alexander of Suncoast Estates also
told the Signal-Star Wednesday morning
the Tudsday evening meeting will have no
effect on their plans to build a plaza.
"Our tenants are committed, our plans
are completed, we are carrying on," he said
emphatically. "There is no change what-
soever. It is strictly 100 percent go. 'I say
that strongly."
Alexander said planning through the
proper channels began almost two years
ago. Surveyors were putting in the corner
stake at preastime and final confirmation
of elevations have been received from
Snider, Huget and March, professional
engineers of Waterloo, These elevations
have also been approved by the town's
engineer, B, M, Ross.
"The people we dealt with' then are the
same people we are dealing with today,"
said Alexander, "They are committed, The
plaza will be built. That's it in a nutshell."
What are the chances for two plazas in
Goderich and district? At this moment, it
appears that it is a strong possibility, Both
developers indicated they would have
major announcements, concerning tenants
in time for next week's Signal-Star.

Presently, Vanastia is not
represented on Tuckersmith
Township Council, but we need
a. voice to ensure sensible
growth and maturity for the
community. Ina few weeks,

will best represent us?
• As a community we must
speak up and ask for what we
want and need for more
stability as Well as better com-

Consider some of these ideas;
bus service to and from Clin-

daily; a local branch of the
Huron County Library for our
653 residents; garbage con-
tainers at the various group
mail boxes; a community
bulletin board for news, coming
events, babysitting, as well as
buy and sell items; a depot for
lost and found articles; as
people approach our com-

have a better playground next

ten picnic tables. Is that a good
record?
