George Brown, the president, opened with the singing of the National Anthetn. and repeating the .Lord's Prayer in unison. The roll call was answered by 27 members and they welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Gibson of the Village and Mrs, Stirling of England, a cousin of Florence Brown, as guests, Secretary, Mrs, Jean Bell read the minutes of the last meeting, mentioning the July Picnic held at Old Homestead and the evening spent at Huronview when some of the members assisted with the program, Her report was adopted. A few items of correspondence were moved for filing. Mrs. Vina Parker gave the treasurer's report which was approved. The president repor- ted that we have purchased a shuffleboard, movie projector and screen, tables and chairs and a new coffee percolator, The Senior Citizen iden- tification cards have been given out to most of the members and' are available for those who haven't received one. Mrs. Esther Makins thanked the president on behalf of the Club for all the work he had done during the summer, which had involved several trips to London to purchase new equip- ment. The meeting was adjour- ned and the usual game of cards was enjoyed. Winners were: ladies high -Fern Baker; low, Clara Johnston; meris high, Ken Lynn; low, Walter Westlake; lone hands -Pearl Hutchings, Bayfleld II 4H Club The first meeting of the Bayfield II 4H Club was held on Thursday, Sept. 25 at the home of Mrs. Alice Brandon. Our leaders are Mrs. Brandon and Mrs. Joan Merner. We had an election of Of- ficers with Dianne Schilbe as president; Joyce Mclllwain as vice-pres. and Valerie Merner as press reporter, We discussed home enter- taining and how to make a hostess reference file. We also discussed how to arrange flowers. We#,were then given our home assignments and members pamphlets. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Watson, (Melon, were Saturday guests Mr, and Mrs. Rob Irwin and obbie, Mr. and Mrs. E,W, Erickson, ndrew, Luanne and Lydia,. spent the weekend with her sister, Mr. and Mrs, Gordon A. Stewart and family at RR 2, Ripley and on Saturday atten- ded the Ripley Fall Fair, Mr, Bud Sturgeon and Miss Barbara Davidson spent the weekend with her parents Mr, and Mrs. Davidson in Windsor, Mr, and Mrs. Bob Cluff, Rob and Tara, London, were at their cottage in the Village for the weekend. Art and Helen Hoggart and family, RR 2, Bayfield were in Niagara Falls on Sunday Sept. 22 to, a Bestline Meeting in the Park Motor Hotel and won a Sunbeam International Mist Styler and Dryer for highest distributor sales in Ontario for the month of August, Earlier in the month, they won a Carnival Glass candle holder which was presented to them by Maurice and Jean Love of Exeter for highest sales in August in this London area. The Hoggart's also received other gifts and pins for highest weekly sales in this same area. There will be a meeting of parents and children who are interested in keeping' the Bayfield Figure Skating Club active. Unless an appreciable number of skaters want to enroll, there will be no figure skating this year. They need more than the regular skaters, who have been members of the Club since its inception in 1970, to be able to pay for the ice time and other expenses that are incurred in operating the Club. If you are interested in Figure Skating, please come to the Bayfield Arena on Satur- day morning, Oct, 5 at 10:00 a.m. A final decision will be made at that time. Please be there to be ,counted on Satur- day,, or there will be a no Club this year. Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. Sturgeon and Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Erickson attended a din- ner party on Friday in Strat- ford at the Golden Bamboo to honour Mrs. Sturgeon on her birthday. While there they met Mr. and Mrs. James Frances who were celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary. Mrs. Pearl Shaddick, Hen- sall, was a recent guest from Monday, to, Friday • with .the R. Miss Winnie Arm- strong of Toronto was also with her parents and family for the weekend. Sunday, Service this Sunday, October 5, in Knox Presbyterian. Church at 11 a,m. will be taken by Mr, Oakes, The Thanksgiving Service, Oc- tober 13, will be conducted by Michael Farris of Toronto. These Will be the last Services in Knox Church for this season, Mrs. Norman F, Cooper, Mount Clemens, Mich. is presently at her village residence on Clan Gregor Square. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chap- man, (Cloudslee) Bruce Mines, left Wednesday morning for the International Plowing Match at Georgetown after being the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R.Roy Fitzsimons and family from the previous Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Weston, Farmington, Mich. were at their cottage for the weekend and had as their guests, Mr, and Mrs. John Bennett and family also of Farmington, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meyer, Michelle and Marsha, Waterloo were with her mother, Mrs, Spinny Ervine for the weekend. Mrs. Meyer, and children remained for a few days visit with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Stone, Sarnia, were weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. Norman F. Cooper. Kippen Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gackstetter in Guelph. Mr. Webster Buchanan, Wheatley, visited in the vicinity during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Swinback, Detroit, visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elzar Mousseau. Mrs. Tom Burke, Apsley, visited her sister Mrs. W.L. Mellis. The Clinton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will hold its Installation Ceremony this Thursday, Oct. 3, Mrs. Don Watson was elected Worthy Matron and Mr. Don Watson, Worthy Pation for the coming year, Last year, Clinton Chapter, with Mrs, Laurie Slade W.M. and Mr. Willard Aiken W,I., had a very successful and The Clinton Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its second meeting at the home of Ann Adams in Londesboro. The guest speaker for the evening, Jane Pengallie, the Huron county home economist showed an interesting and in- formative film strip on the preparation and serving of rice. The roll call was taken, and the minutes and treasurer's reports were given. Following this, the president welcomed a new member, Audrey Kemp, a transfer from the North West rewarding year. Several 'projects to raise money, such as an annual dance in November, were held. With the proceeds from these endeavours, con- tributions were made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart Fund the Arthritic Foundation, and the Clinton Centennial Program, along with several other local ap- peals. The vice-president gave her report on the upcoming Rushing' party to be held Oct. 1 in the Orange Hall. The ways and meahs com- mittee reported a very suc- cessful, car wash and thanked all that helped. They are also planning a Halloween dance Oct. 26 in the arena. The service chairman repor- ted the sorority has'been asked by the Kinnette's to help with the canvassing of Clinton for the Canadian Arthritis Society the first week in October. This year, Grand Chapter was held in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto. Members from Clinton who attended were Mrs. Laurie Slade W.M. Mrs. Don Watson, A.M., Mt, Don Watson A.P., the official delegates, Mrs. Bert Garrett P.D.D.G.M., Mrs. Gerry Holmes P.M. Mrs. W. Wells P.M., Mrs. Don Symons P.M. Mr. Don Symons P.P., Mrs. Alex Haddy, Mrs. Don Bell and Mrs. Guss Boussey. The Worthy Grand Matron, Mrs. Edna Dobbs, Belleville, Ont. chose as her project Multiple Sclerosis. A cheque for $10,000 from the O.E,S. was donated to this worthy cause. For Estarl (Eastern Star Training in Religious Leader- ship) 90 scholarships of $350 each were presented to grateful recipients.
