Bantam girls win one
The Clinton juveniles advanced
to the WQAA championship af-
ter heating Seaforth two games
straight,
In the first game on Tuesday
August 6, Clinton disgraced
Seaforth.
Seaforth got one of their few
runs in the first off one of their
ten hits, Clinton tied it up in
the first and rallied in the
second inning for 13 runs from
four singles three doubles. The
Juveniles then scored four
more runs in the third, three in
the fifth, five in the sixth, three
in the seventh and to top it off,
10 more runs in the eighth.
Seaforth scored their second
and third runs in the seventh
inning, one in the eighth and
one in the nineth,,
In the pitching department,
DonMacDonald got the win
striking out 13. Eisler for
Seaforth got the loss before
being pulled by Bennet after
about twenty runs and Rick
Welch gets credited with save
after relieving MacDonald in
the eighth.
Clinton out hit Seaforth 29-4
with every Clinton player get-
ting at least one hit.
The juveniles played their
second game last Sunday,
beating SeafOrth by a simple
score of 8-3 in Seaforth.
Clinton opened the scoring in
the second inning when Ray
Burns base hit pitcher Eisler
scoring Victor Kennedy. The
Juveniles made it 2-0 in the
third inning when Mike Anstett
rapped a double into left field
and Greg Butler hit Ansteet
home.
Seaforth didn't score until

The Clinton Junior girls*soft-
ball team opened their playoffs
last Friday night as they soun-
dly defeated Dublin 12 to 6 to
take a one to 0 lead in the best
of three series.
The second game was Wed-
nesday August 14.
Saturday and Sunday, the
girls competed in a tournament
in Wiarton. The_ team placed
third, but were ripped off by'llie
unipires in bath their games. As
we arrived on the ball field
Saturday the entire crowd of
150 booed us continually. To
show their bad sportsmanship,
Sandra Fremlin hit four
homeruns in that game and
three people from the stands
clapped to show their ap-
preciation of a well hit ball.
Despite the umpires, we came
from behind to defeat Walker-
ton to advance to the semi-
finals. The other teams refused
to play against us if we wore
spikes because we would hurt
someone.
In Sunday's game, we were
again hurt by the umpires, as
they time and time again made
bad calls. One of our players
hit a fly ball to the left field
and hit the line as the ball jum-
ped. The umpire called it a foul
ball and he told us it hit the
outside of the line, therefore it
was foul. We lost that game by

In the fifth, Clinton, scored

and Colquhoun carne across the
plate on two hits. Seaforth
scored their second final runs
The Clinton Colts took a
commanding lead in their six
game round-robin playoff series
with three consecutive wins in
the past week.
The Colts chances of gaining
one of the two top spots for a
best-of-three playoff to see who
would be the O'.B,A. represen-
tative for the Huron-Perth
league, seems to be the
brightest, as they stand with a
3-0 record. The next top team is
Exeter with a 2-1 record, while
Arva is third with a 1-2 record
and the Thorndale Angels, who
trail the field with a 0-3 record,
could have been eliminated last
night if the COlts defeated
them.
Last Wednesday night,
Colt Pitcher Stew
Mustard struck out 12 Thorn-
dale batters while allowing
only two runs on seven hits, all
of them singles, The Colts
scored their six runs on nine
hits as Greg Burns, Brad Dutot
and Cal Fremlin each had two
of them. Other hits went to Dan
Colquhoun, with a double, ,Doc
Miller and Stew Mustard each
had singles.
On Friday night pitcher Ed
one run and were eliminated
from further play.
A special Lhank you goes to
the convener of the tournament
- Bev. McKinnon 'of Wiarton,
as she made us feel at home.
Also to our coaches, Ruby, Rick
and Graham for their help.
Someone suggested if the
other team felt good about
beating, Clinton the way they
did, then we felt sorry for them
and were glad we had lost':

allowing seven hits. Hot bat-
smen for Clinton were D.

ousted Wingham from further
play with a convncing 13-8 vic-
tory. Once again, Blake

Clinton rallied in the ninth,
getting four runs off hits from
Cook, Coiquhown, MacDonald,
and Burns,
Pan Colquhoun pitcher for
'Clinton, allowing six hits to
Clintons 13.
Deer allowed only one Exeter
hit in his four innings before
having to leave, Reliever Cam-
McDonald came on in the fifth
inning to do a fine job, striking
out nine batters allowing
Exeter's only three runs to
come in the sixth inning on
three consecutive doubles.
The Colts got off to a fast
start as Greg Burns, Archie
Pickett, Dan Colquhoun and
Dave Fawcett hit consecutive
singles in the first inning to
score two runs.
In the fotirth inning Don
Bartliff got things off rolling
again as, he led off with a base
hit and Carl Fremlin pushed
him onto third with a base hit.
Doc Miller then walked and
Greg Burns knocked in two
runs with a base hit and scored
on Archie Pickett's single.
The Colts scored their other
four runs in the seventh and
eighth innings to make it a
final score of 11-3 and their
second victory in the playoffs,
On Sunday, the Colts stalled
several Arva threats to down
the Athletics 7-4 despite gale
force winds which hindered
play. Dave Fawcett, Don Bar-
tliff and Butch Fleet accounted
for knocking in six of the seven
Clinton runs.
Starting pitcher Brad Dutot
was going well until opposing
pitcher Jeff Craig drilled a two
strike pitch over the right field
fence. This brought on a superb
relief performance by Stu
Mustard who allowed only one
run which came in the ninth in-
ning with one out,
The Colts got a break in the
first inning when Cal Fremlin
hit an easy chopper back to
Craig who threw it away. Dave
Fawcett then drilled a double
down the right .field line to
:F•score Vern 1 i Then" Don'13ar-
t1 i ff folldWed with a' double
down the left field line to score
Fawcett for the second Colt
run.
The Colts got two more runs
in the fourth and fifth innings
and one more in the ninth in-
ning on a lead-off home-run
over the ,entre-field fence into
the wind. Butch Fleet, who
recently returned to the line-up
after being out with a broken
wrist, played superbly; hitting
two singles and having two
walks.
The Colts were outhit for the
first. time this 'year 14-10 as
leading Colt hitters were Dave
Fawcett with a single, double
and homerun, Don Bartliff
with'a double and single, Butch
Fleet two singles. Other Colt
hitters were Cal Fremlin, Paul
Bartliff and Stu Mustard.
The Colts next home game is
Friday night at. 8 p.m. against
Arva and they then travel to
Exeter Sunday for a 2:00 p.m.
game.
Although crowds are starting
to pick up some, they are still
not anywhere near what. they
could be. For a town that
boasts four Ontario Champion-
ship teams in the last three
years, crowds are pitiful. The
sad part of it is, the people that
travel to distant towns boast of
these feats that our fair town
has accomplished and nine
times out of 10, they have
maybe been to only a game or
two in the past few years.
The baseball teams in this
town play a good calibre of ball
and it's time people gave some
support instead of seeing the
old faithfuls at each game,
The Clinton Soccer Club
remained undefeated in Third
Division League play when they
easily defeated London Hellas
6-3 at the arena field on Sun-
day,
Clinton opened the scoring in
the first few minutes when a
weak shot from Wayne Fulcher
slipped through the goalkeeper
hands and ended up in the net.
Brian Jewitt put Clinton two
goals up when another lucky
shot eluded the goalkeeper and
shortly afterwards, the score
was 3.0 when a Hellas defender
shot into his own net.
Clinton, playing with the
confidence and poise lacking in
their previous game, found over
confidence their near downfall
when Hellas came back and
scored a few minutes before
half time to make it 3-1 at the
turn.
The second half became a
scrappy, haphazard affair with
Clinton looking like they were
on a Sunday picnic.
Fortunately • fdr Clinton'
there was little opposition and
they moved the ball at will.
Jewitt had no trouble adding
his second goal to make the
score 4-1, but again Hellas
came back and took advantage
of a defensive lapse to make the
score 4-2.
Clinton started to realize the
game could be lost and started
to play good passing soccer
which resulted in Jewitt's hat-
trick.
A fine goal on a break away
by Hellas made the score 5-3
Minor soccer
In minor soccer games on the
weekend three teams lost and
our lone winners were the
atoms.
The Clinton pee-wees lost 4-2
t6 Pinery Panthers. Jeff Gib-
bings and Steve Johns scored

In mosquito action, the
Stingers went down 5.2 to
Goderich Beavers. Ray Dllas
got both Clinton goals.
The Cougars lost 9-1 to St.
Columban with Tony Gibbings
getting the lone goal.
Clinton (atom) Sharks
defeated Seaforth on Friday
evening by a 6-1 score.
Goal scorers were Paul
Stephenson, Brad Forbes and
Tim Addison with one goal
each and Sean Van Dongen ad-
ding three more for his hat
trick but it was 'Doc' (Tim) Ad-
dison who dazzled the Seaforth
team with his fancy footwork
(and elbows).
There will be no practice this
Thursday for the Sharks.
The Clinton Kinette Bantam
girls softball team opened their
first game of the play-offs on
