NEWS-RECORD„ THURSDAY, juNg 1974 Mr. Kenneth Wallis, Kamloopa, British Columbia and Mr. Stirling Wallis of Saskatoon, Sask. visited with their aunt, Miss Josephine Stirling last week. Kenneth and Stirling are sons of the late Herbert Wallis and Luella (Stirling) Wallis of Goderich, Township. While here they visited with several relatives in the area on both sides of the family. They also spent sometime in Port Elgin with another aunt, Mrs, Hugh (Charlotte Stirling) McLaren, a sister of their mother. Miss Stirling also had her niece, Mrs. Donald Stirling of London with her from Tuesday until Friday of last week. Mr. Peter Hockins and guesta Miss Peggy Darlington, Miss Judy Tempelton and Mr. Max- well Morden all of London, spent the day sailing in Mr, Hockins yacht. Mr. and Mrs. Brian White of Fiske, Saskatchewan, are visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs, James Cleave and grandchildren, Barry, Harvey and Marilyn. Mrs. David Veysey and Christopher, Barrie, spent last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Larson. They were joined for the weekend by David and all returned home to Barrie on Sunday. Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parker were Mr. and Mrs. C. Merritt of Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Weston of Farmington, Mich. had as their weekend visitors, Mr. and Mrs. John Bennett also of Farmington, Mich. Mrs. Elsie Sullivan, Sparlingville, Mich. and Mrs. Hilda Gaine of Port Huron, Mich., visited with the formers brother, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McLeod during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs, Bruce Lynn of Etobicoke were at their Village residence on Bayfield Terrace for the weekend and had as their guest Mrs. Noreen Ludlow of Mississauga. Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Higgins spent the weekend in Brantford with Mr. and Mrs. George Bates. While there they atten- ded "Telescience 100", the 100 Anniversary of the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell. They also viewed a movie depicting the first telephone call from Brantford to Paris, Ont. Mrs. Higgins, who was for- merly on staff at the Brantford General Hospital, was also given a personally conducted tour of the hospital and noted the amazing growth and changes that had taken place. From a 200 bed hospital when she was there to over 800 now, with an intensive heart care unit, and computers that com- pile all ,the data, were changes particularly noticed by Mrs. Higgins. Mr, and Mrs. Wilfred Turner and Johnny and their daughter, Mrs, Robert Wilkinson of New Sarem, spent the weekend in the Village visiting his mother, Mrs. Bertha Turner, brothers Robert and Walter and their families. On Sat, they attended the wedding of his niece, Miss Debra Turner to Mr. David Fawcett in St. Andrews United Church, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Smith, Mr, and Mrs. Chris Stannard and Toby, Miss Pamela Rath Mr, Steven Rath and Miss Kathy Burgess, all of London, were weekend guests of the Smith's in their trailer at the Old Homestead Trailer Park. Steven Rath and Miss Burgess also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Rob Irwin and Robbie. Mr. and Mrs. Brian King, London; spent the weekend with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Robert Turner and attended the Fawcett-Turner wedding on Sat. Judge Kenneth F. Arkell, Veron, B,C.; Thomas Arkell, Northwood, Middlesex, England; and his daughter Miss Jo-Ann Arkell, London, England are presently with their rather, Mr. tired Arkell, Goderich and with their mother, Daisy who is confined in University Hospital, London, During the weekend, they visited with relatives in the Village and attended the Fawcett-Turner reception in the Bayfield Cornmunity Cen- tre on Sat. evening, Mrs, G.L. Knight was in Lon- don for a fe* days last week , with her cousin, Miss Rhea Stirling, With Mrs. Knight for the next ten days are her gran- dson Bill Latimer and his fiance Miss Ruth Fuhrmann both of Toronto. Rev. and Mrs, 14.4,E, Crosby and Mr. Andres, Ntooretown are spending this week in the Mrs, El Reid had as her recent Visitors, Mr, Bob Heifer. non and his mother Mrs. Hef- fern90, Mrs. Harold Atwood Galion, Ohio and Mrs, Eric Kent of Sarnia. They also visited with Mr, Reid who is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reid of Burlington who were with his grandmother, Mrs. George Reid, Varna, called on relatives in the Village on Sat. Mr, and Mrs, Ed Rowse, Cathy, Jill and Dale, London, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. LB, Smith. Mr. Ed Beck, Mr, Clair Ruf- fell, Mr. and Mrs, Thornton and Mr. and Mrs. John Camp- bell and Peter, all of London, were at their respective cot- tages during the weekend. Best wishes to Phil Gemeinhardt who is presently a patient in Victoria Hospital, London. Phil sustained injuries while loading logs onto a wagon in the bush last Mon- day. Mrs. Olive Carson, who is convenor of the Pioneer Park Annual Rummage Sale, says they are busy getting ready for this big event for July 12 in the Arena and she asks that everyone save all their treasures to help make it a suc- cess again this year, Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Erickson and family visited in Port Huron, Mich. on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Belichamber, who are presently residing in L...ndon , were weekend visitors in the Village. Jeff and Rollie Sturgeon of Orangeville were weekend guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Sturgeon. Mr. and Mrs. R. Roy Fitz- simons and Terry visited with Mrs. Fitzsimon's sister, Mrs. Gordon Weeks in St. Catherines on Wed, evening, Bud and Andrew Sturgeon, Bayfield and their brother Ber- nard of' Orangeville motored to Saginaw, Mich. and spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gemeinhardt. An Antique Car Club group from the mid-western United States stopped at Clan Gregor Sq are in Bayfield on Sat. after- noon for a rest period before continuing on to Port Carling. The cars ranged from 1904 to 1910 and included a Pierce Arrow, Hupmobile, Buick, Packard, and two Ford Models. Most were being driven by their owners at speeds averaging 35 miles an hour. The group had restored all their antique cars and one gentleman said his car was valued in the $25,000 range. The Club members were proceeding on to Port Elgin for the night and planned to con- tinue on to Port Carling on Sunday. The registered guest list at the Albion Hotel for the weekend included Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Katz, Toronto, Mrs. Katz remained for this week also; Dr. Richard Smith, his wife Lucia and daughter of La Jolla, California. (Dr. Smith is a grimdson of the late Mrs. Brown Martin of Boulder Lodge); Mr. and Mrs. Nigel Gilby, Guelph; Mr. Michael O'Dowd, Mississauga; Mr. and Mrs, Joe Champion, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Barber, all of Markham and Mr. Charles C Jones, Louisville, Kentucky. Thomas and Joan Shea and John and Mary Shea all of Chatham are holidaying at the cottage of their mother Mrs. Evelyn (King) Shea of Toronto. Bud Robinson of London was at his home at RR 3, Bayfield for a few days last week. A Youth Evangelism Team from all over eastern Canada, known as "Messiah's Min- strels" will be visiting Kox Presbyterian Church, Bayfield, July 2 through July 5, The team made up of five boys and five girls, are especially talen- ted in music and drama and will present a special presen- tation in the Coffee House on July 4, Rev. Bob Fourney of Forest is the Director of the team, Everyone is invited to come out and hear the group, and a special invitation is issued to the young people. The Opti-Mrs. Club of Vanastra and Clinton picked their new executive at a recent meeting. They are: president, Peggy Hammond; vice president, Susan McFadden; secretary, Sandra McLachlan; treasurer, Colleen Barnard; social convenor, Hilda Bross; sunshine chairman, Shirley Emery; program convenor, Carol. McDonel I; ways and means chairman, Moira Robin- son; publicity chairman, Kathy Rielly. It was decided that another Rummage Sale . time 1 p.m. would be held at the new com- munity centre. July 6 and clothes left over would be donated to the Salvation Army. Mrs. Pat McDougall received the Opti-Mrs. of the Year Award ,which was an engraved serving tray, and the runner- UCW hears of The Afternoon Unit of Wesley-Willis United Church met in the Church Parlor on. June 20th at 2 p.m. with an at- tendance of 18. With Mrs. Lorne Jervis presiding, the meeting opened with the singing of two hymns and Mrs. Edna Cantelon read the scripture, with comments by Mrs. Jervis. A poem "How do I know there is a God"? was read by Mrs, Jervis. ,Mrs. F. Finland was guest speaker and she gave a resume of her European trip from Dover, England to Germany, Austria, Vienna, where the oldest University is,as well as a famous boys' choir; Munich, where the Olympic games were played; Salesburg where "The up, Mrs. Donna Westerhout, received two Blue Mountain pottery vases. The tickets for the Opti-Mrs. draw on a 10-speed C.C.M. racer are selling well and the bicycle will be displayed in McAdams Hardware where tickets will be available. A dance planned for the fall will be held on Oct. 11 at the Legion Hall with the Star Trex playing. After the adjournment of the meeting, the members of the club heard a very informative talk from Mrs. Sally Bird from the Clinton Nursery School on child development. After a question and answer period, Mrs. Colleen Barnard on behalf of the club presented Mrs. Bird a cheque for $100 to be used for her work at the Nursery School. They were reminded to make things for the fall bazaar. Mrs. Jervis gave two readings and the meeting closed with the Benediction and lunch was ser- ved. The many friends of Mrs. Mary Haugh, Mrs. William Rodgerson and Mr. Lorne Wilson will be pleased to hear that all returned last week from stays at different hospitals. A large crowd attended the Ham and Strawberry Supper at Brucefield United Church last week, with over 600 served. Mr. and Mrs. B. Lyndon spent last weekend with Mrs. Haugh and family. Mr. and Mrs. J. Broadfoot attended a lodge meeting in Toronto last week.
