Sam Castle honored at retirement dinner * * * Mr, and Mrs. Bill Counter of Clinton, accompanied by Mr, and Mrs. Don Middleton of RR 3, Clinton have returned from a holiday in Grand Bahama, They were impressed with the relative newness of many aspects of this island. Unlike some of its sister islands• in the Bahamas, it has been developed only in the past 25 years - hence the brand new look• of roads, buildings, etc. A side trip to Nassau served to emphasize the comparison bet- ween the very old and the very new. an active interest in the Boy Scouts, serving a tenure of of- fice as Scoutmaster. He is also a respected member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Clin- ton Branch, In any spare moments, he finds time for his favourite hobby of oil painting. As a mark of esteem Mr, Castle was presented with a beautiful chaise lounge. All his many, friends and fellow em- ployees wish him many happy years. of retirement. A retirement dinner was held for Sam Castle of Dunlop Street at the Clintbn Hotel on Wednesday, April 10. Mr, Castle recently retired as parts manager with J. and T. Mur- phy Limited, Clinton. Born in Clinton, Sam. Castle attended the Clinton Public School and Clinton Collegiate. Following high school he joined his father, the late Sam Castle, in the latter's butcher shop on Albert Street then situated After his convalescence, he joined Murphy Brothers in August, 1953 where he con- tinued until his retirement. Mr. Castle was married to the former Grace MacKenzie of Tiverton on September 15, 1934. They have two daughters - Miss Joanne Castle a Physical Education teacher in Burlington and Mrs. Sibyl McDougall of Blyth, Aside from his daily work Sam Castle found time to take where Walt Gardiner's Barber Shop is now. In 1939 he enlisted in the Canadian. Army serving both in Canada and overseas. Upon discharge, he was with Clare Connell in his butcher shop un- til 1949. at which time ,he for- med a partnership with Gordon Cudmore and purchased the Clinton Locker Service. In 1950, Mr. Castle was stricken with a serious illness and was confined to hospital until 1952. (News-Record photo) Bob McKinley asks riding name be changed at IGN'the owners in the store" your guarantee of complete s isfacti Mr. McKinley said the new name would be a better description of the riding, but he had withheld action to change it anticipating another redistribution on the basis of the 1971 census. The boundaries commission did recommend addition to the riding of part of Perth county but this has been set aside for reconsideration of the whole problem of representation in the Commons. It appears an election is • likely before redistribution is agreed upon. Mr, McKinley says there now is no reason for 'delay in the name change, Huron MP Robert McKinley has launched a private mem- ber's bill in the House of Com- mons to change the name of his riding to Huron-Middlesex. The bill is entered under the Electoral. Boundaries Re- adjustment Act and will in the normal course of events get parliamentary approval without debate. * * * Fourteen-year-old Katie and ten-year-old Lizzie, daughters of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Walden, must have captured a first last week. Taking advantage of a brief spell of warm weather, they went for a, swim in the lake at Bayfield. * * * While talking to Sam Cakle, whose retirement is reported elsewhere in this paper, a few interesting facts regarding meat prices came to light. During his butcher days of the thirties Mr, Castle recalls a steak seljing•for 50 cents, sausages for 18 cents a pound, head cheese and liver a mere 10 cents and a kidney - well that was thrown in free. our The village of Ailsa Craig and the townships of Biddulph and McGillivray in the County of Middlesex were added to the Huron riding in the last redistribution.
