Flowers were placed in St. James Church on Sunday last to the Glory of God and in loving memory of the late Albert Colclough, a lifetime faithful member of this Church. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mid- dleton and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Counter of Clinton returned last Saturday from a delightful holiday to the Bahamas, Their headquarters was the Oceanus Beach Hotel, Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. They also enjoyed a trip to Nassau, on New Providence Island. The Middletons reported per- fect weather all the way and this combined with the color- ful tropical birds and scenery, the honesty and courtesy of the native population, all con- tributed to a perfect holiday. The annual meeting for Huron West W,I,, is to be held in Belgrave May 27 with registration at 9:30 and dinner at 2:25. Londesboro will lead the sing-song with Genevieve Allen directing. It was moved to pay car mileage of 15c per mile each way and to buy the church 75th anniver- sary book for the curator, Guest speaker was district president, Mrs. Haines of Auburn who, spoke on "What has the W.I. done for you". She closed with the Poem, "If you walk as a friend". She was thanked by Marjorie Anderson who presented her with a gift. Sewing with knits summary day will be• held April 24 4n the Legion Hall, Clinton and 4-H Achievement Day May 18 in Blyth Public School. Readings were given by Alice Buchanan and Marjorie Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hamilton, London, visited with Mr. Will Govier on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stalker of Kitchener visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gaunt. Mr. Harry Tebbutt is a patient in Clinton hospital. -' Hi-C held a meeting following the church service to discuss a date for the variety program. April 19 was chosen. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Peck of London spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Sundercock when Mary Lynn celebrated her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Torn Duizer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Art Hunking and Todd of Exeter, Mr. Murray Flunking, and Miss Julie Bowie entertained their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hunking on the occasion of their wedding anniversary and Murray Hunking's birthday. Chastity Colquhoun of Clin- ton spent Monday with her great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. ShobbrOok, Dora Lynn Ellerby of Clinton spent the weekend with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Shobbrook. DEATHS' COLCLOUGH: At -Clinton Public Hospital on Thursday, April 4, 1974, R. Albert Colclough of Clin- ton, in his 90th year, Beliwed husband of the late Elizabeth (Bur- nett) Colclough and dear father of George of !Julien Township. Also surviving are two grandchildren. Predeceased by two brothers and one sister. The funeral service was held from the Ball Funeral Home, 153 High Street, Clinton on Satur- day April 6 at 2 p,m. Interment in Clinton Cemetery. GAIRDNER: At'Huronview Home, Clinton, on Thursday, April 4th, 1974, Isabel Gairdner, formerly of Hayfield, in her 82nd year/ Beloved wife of the late Rev, R.H.F, Gaird- ner, and dear sister of Mrs. -LW. Westcott of Evanston: Illinois, and Mrs, W.C. Morse of River Forest, Illinois. Also surviving is one gran- ddaughter, Mrs. William (Katie) Peal! of Seaforth. The late Mrs. Gairdner rested at'the Ball Funeral Home, 153 High Street, Clinton un- til the Funeral Service which was held in Trinity Anglican Church, Hayfield on Saturday, April 6th, at 11 a.m. Interment in Hayfield Cemetery. United Church Palm Sunday service began with Gospel sing,time. Greeters were Margaret Taylor and 4aele Lee; ushers were Gary Buchanan, Allen Peel, Darrell Shobbrook and David Reid, Rev, McDonald's message was "What does it mean to 'be a Christian." The UCW executive held a short meeting following the church service when an in- vitation was read from Wesley- Willis and Ontario Street Chur- ches in Clinton to attend their thankoffering meeting April 28. Rev, Roberts of Belgrave will be speaker. It was moved to raise the banquet prices to $3 per plate. A question box will be established at April meetings for problems and suggestions to' be used at the spring meeting in Seaforth May 22, The United Church will hold a special Thursday evening ser- vice with a different trend when, in place of a sermon, the 'message will be brought through a chancel play entitled "The Continuing Crusifixion", The play will bring the Good, Friday story with the cast gathered around the cross telling the story. Allen Bosman will be the centurian, Mrs. Nick Whyte, Mary, Donald Jewitt, Peter; Mrs. Gary Jewitt, Mary Magdelene; Gary Jewitt, the disciple, John; and Ian Hulley as Pontius Pilot. Rev. McDonald will conduct the service and Mrs. Allen Rosman will be the soloist with special music by the choir. Holy communion will be served. Sunday School Staff On Monday evening the Sun- day school staff met in the church parlor for their quar- terly meeting. Holidays for the Summer were set for the month of July, It was decided to hold promotional and award Sun- ,day June 30 with teachers in Father and Son Banquet Young a nd.Rold.,were thrilled iland awed with the magic tricks"' hf Mr. Albert, a magician from Ustowel, when he presented a program in the United church Tuesday 'evening. The evening wag arranged as a program for the Cub and .Scout father and son evening but an invitation was extended to the com- munity. Mrs. .John Thompson of the group committee was chairwoman for the evening. Prior to the program, the UCW and Cub and Scout mothers catered to the banquet. Cub leaders were Stan McDonald, Don Reid, Clair McClure and Mrs. Murray Popp; Scout leaders were Nick Whyte, Bill 'Whyte and David Lee. Jack Lee was chairman for the evening. Warren Hulley and Doug McClure presented the flags; Danny Kiss said Grace t nd Ronnie Nesbitt thanked the ladies for the meal. Toasts for the evening were given by Bryan McClure,• Robert Flunking, Don Plant and Brice Hunking with replies by Harry Snell, Ross Lovett and Nick Whyte. Cubmaster Stan McDonald presented the Blue Star award to Cameron Moon and Robert Penfound. Badges were presented to John Lawson, John Lammerant, Bruce Flunking, Neil Cart- wright, Cameron Moon and Steven Popp. Group committee for the year are Jack Lee, Gordon Shob- brook, Murray Adams, Mrs. John Thompson and Howard Cartwright. LONDESBORO 1 4-H On April 1 the Londesboro 1 4-H Club held their fourth meeting. Secretary Vaughn Hunking read the minutes of the last meeting. The girls an- swered the roll call by citing a good habit they knew of for care of clothing, It was announced that Achievement Day will be held May 15 and that books must be in to be checked by May 10, Notes on storage resources were discussed, The next meeting will be held April 15. Londesboro III 4-H Londesboro III held their sixth meeting at the home of Mrs. Tom Duizer April 1. Minutes were read' by Golda Sewers. Roll'call was answered by 15 members. The next meeting will, be held April 22. Card Pary The W.I. held their, final card party , for the season April 5 with ten tables in play. Prize winners were as follows: ladies high, Gloria Adams; lone hands, Hazel Reid; low, Margaret Taylor; men's high, Bill Leiper; lone hands, Mac Sewers; low, Lorne Hunking.
