Clinton Mayor Don Symons
and Clinton PUC members Hal
Hartley and John Wise were
among the 1,500 delegates at
the Ontario Municipal Electric
Association convention which
officials claim was the most im-
portant ever.
The annual meeting, held at
the Royal York Hotel March
3to 6, involved discussion on
some of the most crucial issues
in the Association's 65-year
history.
The OMEA represents about.
350 municipal electric com-
missions who distribute electric
power to about two million
househo!d customers.
The delegates were commit-
ted to a heavy business
schedule, debating and voting
on a variety of topics, and
hearing speeches by key people
in the electricity industry, in-
cluding Darcy McKeough, On-
tario Minister of Energy, and
George Gathercole, Chairman
of Ontario Hydro.
Much of the discussion cen-
tred on the government's recent
decision to appoint only two
OMEA members to the new 12,-
man Ontario Hydro Board. The
Association's official view is
that this does not represent the
local municipalities' ownership
of the electricity system. As
well; the OMEA needs more
representation on the Board to
continue its traditional role of
safeguarding electricity con-
sumers' interests, particularly
in the area of rates.
OMEA retiring president Er-
nest Alexander told the
meeting that the decision made
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the
Royal Canadian Legion held
their March meeting in the
lounge of the Legion Hall, with
Mrs. Margaret Thorndike
presiding over the meeting.
The Auxiliary has a busy
spring coming up with a num-
ber of banquets in the next two
months. The first large one
coming up on March 29. The
zone Card party is being held in
Clinton on March 20, and
Bowling Tournaments in
Goderich on April 17, and
Seaforth on May 8.
The annual donation to the
Muscular Dystrophy will be
made, and a gift of a housecoat
and slippers will be given to
Legionnaire John Cree, instead
`of cigarettes, candy, etc.
The Auxiliary is looking after
the Clinton Hospital cart for
the month of March. Ruth
MacLean won the share-the-
wealth and Elsie Murrell won
the attendance draw.
Following the meeting, Mrs.
Rose Hill of Goderich, gave a
erscefisie, 4-H
Our second meeting took
Place on March 4 at the home
of Faye Cantelon. The meeting
opened with the 4-H Pledge
and was followed by the roll
call.
The next meeting was held
on March 11th at the home 'of
Linda Coleman.
For the discussion, our
leaders went over the subject
matter and the handout sheet.
Doris talked about grooming
and we had to list some basic
grooming.
Kina, and Elizabeth showed
us how,to do manicuring while
Beverly 'read off the directions.
We went over the handout
sheet for the next meeting
which was on the ,"Little
Things that Count."
CLINTON II, 4-H
On March 4 the "Ugly
Ducklings" held their second
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Tyndall. The meeting was
opened with the 4-H pledge.
Susan Tyndall and Glenna
Ellis volunteered to have their
finger nails manicured.
Wendy Tyndall and Brenda
Hummel demonstrated this to
the other club members. We
discussed what we would notice
about a person when meeting
theip for the first time.
The meeting was adjourned
and everybody left. We all
agreed the evening proved to be
educational and a, most en-
joyable one. - by Brenda Hum-

TAYLOR'S CORNER 4-H
The second meeting of the
Taylor's Corner's 4-H
homemaking club was held on
Saturday, March 9 at the home
of Mrs. Martha de Boer.
The club is called "The
Dozen Daisies".
Members decided to go to the
Ice Capades on April 9 in Lon.
don.
This time Taylor's Corner's
club is doing a skit or demon-
stration entitled "What Makes
A Girl Attractive?" They
discussed some of the little
things that count,
At the close of our second
meeting some girls manicured
their fingernails' while others
learned the proper way of men-
ding socks.
