Parish Hall for a delicious and bountiful smorgasbord dinner to honour Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arkell for their many 'years of faithful service to Trinity Church. The Arkell s recently left the Village and have taken up residence in Goderich, Harry Baker, Rector's ware den, paid tribute to the many services performed by Fred, his 14 years on the board of management and his tenure as both people's and Rector's war- den, and to Daisy for the .work done by her on the Chancel Guild. Fred Hulls, People's warden, presented the couple with a beautiful mantle clock, a gift of the congregation. The Rector, Rev, George Youmatoff, also paid tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Arkell and wished them many happy retirement years in Goderich. Mr. Arkell fittingly replied and said he was sure he didn't deserve all the credit bestowed upon him, and was surprised and thrilled with the gracious gesture of the congregation. Mrs. Don (Rosemarie) Sager of Goderich, a daughter of Fred and Daisy, spoke for the family and recited an old cliche, "Home is Where the Heart is", and she said even though her parents were now living in Goderich, their heart would always be in • Bayfield. Following a banquet a social hour of euchre and bridge was enjoyed. *** Day of Prayer "MAKE US BUILDER'S OF PEACE" is the fOcus for the 1974 World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 1. More than 3000 communities across BY MARY MERNER The Foresters held a euchre party' on Friday evening February 22nd at the hall. The winners were: women's high, Mary Riley; lone hands, Ferne McClure; low, Kim Riley; men's high, Stewart Dolmage; lone hands, Walter McClure; low, Larry McClure. The Foresters held a suc- cessful family tobogganing party on Sunday February 24th at Dorrance's Hills. About 50 returned to the hall to enjoy a pancake supper and a social hour. Another family day is plan- ned for the future. Congratulations are exten- ded to Mr. and Mrs. Barry Powley of Ottawa (nee Betty Thompson) on the birth of twin sons Jason Dane and Johnathon William on February 19th. They are the first grandchildren for Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson. Mrs. John Thompson and Mrs. Terence Hunter of Colborne Township left Satur- day morning for Ottawa, where they are planning to visit this Canada and 100 countries around.. the World will be sharing this inter- denominational day of prayer and fellowship. The service was prepared by the National Christian Council of Japan, In Bayfield, the service will be held at St, Andrew's United Church at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be a Salvation Army Captain •frem Goderich, Men, women and children of .any faith are welcome, The World Day of Prayer is sponsored in Canada by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada, Toronto. Offerings are used to support ecumenical programmes that meet human needs, both in Canada and other, countries, * * Figure Skating Club Even though the Club made a late start this season, they are going to have a "Pop Concert on Ice" on Sat, March 9, at 8 p.m. They have been skating about two months and all the members are looking forward to having a carnival. They are working hard and trying to get routines ready so their parents, relatives and friends can see what can be accomplished in a few short weeks. Since they are a small club, funds are very limited, so they are having a draw for two vouchers again this year from Brandon's Hardware and the Woollen Shoppe so they will have enough to carry them through for ice time. Brownie Misting There were 25 Brownies at our meeting and one away, Cindy Talbot was fairy queen and Brenda DeBUYter, Shawna Cummings and Cindy Renner were enrolled as Brownies. We remembered Lady Baden- Powell's birthday and we lit a candle for a different country. Thinking Day is Feb. 22. Rope Banner got her Golden Bar, Diana Claus got her write?s badge and Cathy Lep- pington received her craft badge. Mr. and Mrs. Del Arsenault of Stratford were the baby's God- parents, Attending the Service were the baby's maternal grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennewies, Seaforth, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. E. Walter Erickson, of Bayfield, and aunts, Lisa and Chris Ben- newies, and uncles, Greg Ben- newies, and Andrew Erickson. Following the Service, the family were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennewies and family' in Seaforth. * * * Personals Friends of Mrs. T.C. (Mar- tha) Bailey will be sorry to learn that she is hospitalized in Goderich General hospital with a broken hip, as is Mr. Philip puBoulay, who underwent• surgery in Clinton Public Hospital. * * * Sincere sympathy is extended tie the etiVes of Mit.' Art and Blanche Shepherd, who lived for a few years in Clinton and Seaforth, were the conveners of this event. * * Mr. and Mrs, Paul. Bedard, Berkely, Michigan were with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ducharme RR 3, Bayfield' for the weekend. Sunday visitors with the Ducharmes were their son Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ducharme and family of Wind- sor, Memorial ,services at the cenotaph, two banquets for all members, and a Scarlet Degree meeting conducted by Builett District degree team, are to be features of a gathering of Orangemen and Black Knights in Goderich on April 23 to 27, On April 25 there is to be a din- ner meeting at Hotel Bedford for county masters, This hotel will be headquarters for Grand Lodge officers. , The occasion is the 98th an- nual convocation of the Provin- cial Black Chapter of Ontailo West and the 115th annual session of the Orange Grand Lodge of Ontario West; Business sessions will be held in Knox Presbyterian church hall. One banquet will'be held at Knox and the other in North Street United hall. Ernest G. Ashick, Orange grand master, has noted that Grand Lodge last met In Goderich in 006, That was the Grand. Lodge of British America, its officers including such noted names as those pf Horatio Hocken, LtX01, F, sproule and the perennial grand ,secretary, William Lee, Grand Master of the Ontario West Black Chapter is Walter H. Scott, Beigrave, but he is reported to be ill, and another officer may preside. Several hundred delegates Are expected, though much depends upon weather con- ditions at this season, A billeting committee will be stationed at Hotel Bedford, and cars will be available to assist senior members to get around.
