Last fall, everyone in the industry knew
that paneling prices would soar in '74.
To head off these expected increases,
Discount Dave flew to Evans' huge
manufacturing plant last November
and made arrangements to buy a
completely new line of paneling at
1973 prices. He knewthat if he waited
till the following year prices WOULD
increase and these increases would
have to be passed on to the customer.
So count your lucky stars and buy
your paneling now. Remember: when
our present stock is exhausted, replace-
ment costs will be greater.

fenshrers should._file
now for Tax cred4
Pensioners and taxpayers
who are not waiting for T4 or
T5 slips should file now for
their fair share of Ontario's tax
credits, Revenue Minister
Allan Gressman, advised today.
Mr. Grossman told a Toronto
meeting of senior citizens that
residents who have no taxable
income stand to benefit most
from Ontario's Tax Credit,
System and should claim their
tax credits before the rush of
federal income tax returns
begins.
"This year's tax credit
program, which is integrated
,with the income tax system ad-
Ministered by the federal gover-
nment, has been expanded,"
Mr. Grossman explained.
"We have added a sale's tax
credit and a pensioner tax
credit to the property tax
credit, It is estimated that
about $300 million in benefits
will be paid to Ontario
residents to bring greater fair-
ness to the provincial tax
system," he said.
Mr. Grossman continued:
"We expect that two out of
three Ontario taxfilers will
share in these tax credits.
Many pensioners, for example,
will get somewhere between
$126 and $300, depending on
their particular circumstan-
ces."
Eligible residents must fill in
certain pages' of the federal in-
come tax return and the purple
Ontario Tax Credit Form at-
tached inside the tax package,
in order to claim-even if they
have no taxable income.

mative years, few adults are
aware of its nutritional
value throughout life.
amount - .5 grams - according
to food specialists at the On-
tario Food Council, Ministry of
Agriculture and Food.
Unlike many beverages, such
as coffee, tea and pop, milk has
a high percentage of nutrients
per calorie; a daily intake of 1
1/2 glasses of whole milk will ,
supply a woman with 86 per
cent of the calcium she needs
per day, 52 per cent of the
riboflavin, 33 per cent of
protein and 10 per cent of
calories.
Skim milk is the best choice
for weight watchers. Only its
cream has been removed and
an 8 ounce glass contains 89
calories. There are 159
calories in' the same quantity of
whole milk and 123 in 2 per
cent milk.
A • supply of skim milk
powder in the cupboard is a
boon on the occasions when
you run out of milk. Less ex-
pensive than fluid milk, it can
really help stretch the family
budget. Some people prefer it
mixed with 2 per cent milk.
Try mixing a quart of each at
first; later you may like to add
two •quarts of reconstituted
skim milk to one quart of 2 per
cent and stretch your milk sup-
"I strongly urge senior
citizens, welfare recipients and
other residents who are not
waiting for T4 or T5 slips to
complete and mail an income
tax return as early as
possible," Mr. Grossman said.
Residents who have not
received an income tax return
in the mail should pick one up
at the Post Office.
Mr. Grossman said citizens
requiring help in claiming their
tax credits should contact
either the nearest federal
district tax office or telephone
the Ontario Tax Credit Infor-
mation. Centre.
The Centre can be reached,
free of charge, by dialing "0"
and asking the operator for
ZENITH 8-2000.
The three tax credits are
related to taxable income. The
claimant must deduct one per
cent of taxable income froth his
total credits to determine his
net credit.
The property tax credit is
designed' to offset the burdan of
municipal taxes for
homeowners, tenants, roomers
and boarders.
The sales tax credit, equal to
one per cent of total personal
exemptions, provides relief
from the retail sales tax, par-
ticularly for senior citizens and
low-income earners with large
families.
The pensioner tax credit
provides additional• tax relief
for senior citizens and is equal
to $100 for a single pensioner
or a married couple.
ply even further. Always serve
milk well chilled.
Most milk in Ontario 'con-
tains Vitamin D, vital in the
prevention of rickets, and
recommended daily for all
drinking milk regularly is the
easiest way to be sure of getting
Vitamin D; otherwise a sup-
plement is required. Check the
carton, cap or pouch label on
your milk supply to be sure
Vitamin D has been added by
your dairy.
If you have trouble getting
your family to drink sufficient
milk, try adding it to soups and
sauces; use cheese frequently
in salads or for snacks and san-
dwich fillings. Yogurt,
chocolate milk and chocolate
drink are also members of the
milk family, and liked by most
youngsters. Mothers may be
interested - and their children
delighted - to learn that three
scoops of ice cream have the
same nutritional value'as eight
ounces of milk.
In 1972, 182 ship movements
were reported to the Transport
Canada ice operations office. in
Frobisher Bay. More than 25
vessels were involved in
delivering more than 61,000
tons of cargo to 51 settlements
and bases between the
Labrador coast and Eureka 'on
Ellesmere Island in the High
Arctic.
