Well, the Winter Carnival for '74 has come to a close. This
yeark edition was indeed a very enjoyable and successful one
and I 'express my congratulations to the Winter Carnival
Committee for an outstanding effort. Of particular note was
this yeaz parade which was supported well and came off
smoothly.
The Clinton Raiders Girls' Hockey team are to be
congratulated, for their initial victory over the police Assoc.
and for their victory in the girls' tournament which won
them the Don Symons Winter Carnival trophy.
The 8th liners and the C.H.S.S. Redmen Students' Broom-
ball teams emerged victorious in the "A" and "B" series
respectfully.,Thanks to, the "Bluebirds" and "Kinsmen," for

Juniors to meet Lucan
Closing out the regular
schedule last week, the Clinton.
Colts established themselves as
.contenders for playoff levels as
they crushed Listowpt and Kur-
tzville in their last two games,
The Colts upended the
Listowel Jets by a score of 7-3
last Tuesday in Listowel and
then skated to a decisive 8-3
victory over Kurtzville last
Friday night in Clinton.
-This weekend opens the
WOAA Intermediate 'C'
playoffs which will see three
teams (Kurtzville, Milverton,
and Clinton) playing a round-
robin series. Then the two
teams with the best -record play
a best-of-seven series for the
Southern Championship before
playing the northern group.
The Colts travel to Listowel
Atom
League
The atom house league
resumed last Friday evening,
after a fair lay off.
In the first game, the Leafs
shut out the Canadians 2-0.
Paul Stephenson -scored both
Leaf goals. In the second game,
the Blues shut out the Bruins
7-0, Tony Gibbings had a great
game by scoring a double hat
trick. Yes, that's six goals.
David Malpass scored goal
number 7. There will be normal
practise next Friday beginning
at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the
Canadians vs the Bruins at
12:20 p.m. and the Blues take
on the Leafs at 1:00 p.m.
on Friday night to do battle
with Kurtzville in the series
opener while Milverton invades.
Clinton, on:Sunday night to face
the Colts at 8:00 p.m.
In the Listowel win, seven
different players scored goals
as the. Colts dominated play
froin the opening faceoff. They
led 3-1 after the first period
and increased it to 5-1 after
two periods with two unan-
swered goals. Netting the twine
for .the local talent were Butch
Fleet, Greg Burns, Stu
Mustard, Joe Livermore, Don
Bartliff, Ken Deer and Rick
Fremlin, Bruce Lyndon was
ejected late in the third period
for fighting with Listowel's
Kreiger and will miss the first
playoff game, as a result of the
incident.
Last Friday night on their
own pond the Colts scored an
impressive 8-3 victory over
their northern opposition, Kur-
tzville. Bruce Schoenbals set up
four Colt goals and played his
best game of the year as the
Colts defeated Kurtzvilk for
the third time in four outings
this year. Butch Fleet, Stu
Mustard and Scott Parks each
scored a pair of goals while solo
efforts went to Mel Hohner and
Derwin Carter.
Sunday night's encounter
should be the best game of the
year as the Milverton-Clinton
rivalry continues. Milverton
are the WOAA Grand Cham-
pions for the past two years so
the Colts will have a hard task
ahead of them when the puck is
dropped at 8 p.m. Come out
and support the Colts.
For the second year in a row,
Clinton Public School won the
skating races in the com-
petitiOns last Saturday which
were part of the Winter Car-
nival activities.
Clinton Public collected 60
points, white Hullett Central
finished second with 36 points;
Holmesville Public was third
with 30, Huron Centennial was
fourth with 29, St. Joseph's
Separate was fifth with 17, and
Clinton Christian School was
sixth with 10 points.
In individual honors, Tina
Strong of Clinton Public was
first in the grades 1-3 girls'
race, Barb Forbes of
Holmesville was second and
Cheryl Armstrong of St.
Joseph's was third. In the
boys' division, Daren Telford of
Huron Centennial was first,
Kent Howatt of Hullett was
second, and Sean Van Dongen
of Holmesville was third.
In the grade four and five
class, girls', Shelly Middleton
of Holmesville was first, Laura
Raithby, of Holmesville was

Wednesday night at London
in the third race, Carry on Sly
owned by Andrew Park of Mit-
chell was out of the money with
Gord Pullman on the bike.
Saturday afternoon at Lon-
don in the second race, Douglas
Bars owned by Ron and Geo.
Feagan was second with Gerry
Roebuck driving. In the third
race True Personality was
third. The fifth race winner was
El Sam 0. The payoff was $5
and the mile was in 2:11.

Sassy Dee, owned by Gord
Ranson of Clinton was an upset
winner in the sixth race on
February 6. She trotted to a

second in the ninth race at
Windsor Raceway last Friday
night. Harlo Bucky owned by

Mustangs . finished off the
season with two wins and a lose
to clinch second place in the
Western League and a play-off
berth. Clinton opens the guar-
ter-finals this Friday night in

Tuesday Feb, 5, the girls met
Forest in a real battle. Forest
took a 2-0 lead and still held it
until Pat Kay scored with eight
minutes left to go in the third
period. With 1;05 remaining,
Pat Kay put a shot through the
legs of the Forest goaltender to
force a sudden death overtime
period. •
With 35 seconds left to play
in the 5 minute overtime
period, JoAnne Palmer put one
in on a rebound to give the
Raiders a 3-2 win,
Anyone who was there saw
the girls play an outstanding
game of hockey to put them
into the finals on Saturday

Mustangs travelled to Belmont

Saturday, the girls met Ilder-
ton head on in a hard hitting
game. Early in the first period
Darlene Chowen scored what
proved to be the winner as
Clinton held on shutting the
door on the Ilderton shooters
to beat them 1-0. The girls are
to be commended on a job well
done.
A special thank-you goes to
all who helped make the girls'
bake sale a success. The
proceeds go to help pay for
those jackets the gals have been
sporting for the last couple of
weeks.
The girls play Dorchester
Thursday night in a play-off at
8:00 p.m. which could be the
last home game if the girls
don't win. Come out and sup-
port this team. See you at the
Arena.

cancelled Mon.
Men's Physical Fitness
There will be no physical fit-
ness classes on Monday,
February 18, due to a school
holiday. Classes will resume on
Monday, February 25 as usual.

Report
Clinton police are continuing
their investigation into three
break and entries in Clinton
last week.
Thieves broke into Blake's
Welding on February 5 and
stole $15, took $3 from a
breakin at Haugh Tire and at-
tempted 'to break into a trailer
owned by Kelvin Jervis of Isaac
Street.
In Clinton court last week,
Judge Gregory found Patrick
Cook of Clinton guilty of failing
to supply a breath sample and
fined him $250 or 30 days in
jail and suspended his driving
licence for a year and a half.
Bradley Eveneshen of
Seaforth was convicted of ob-
structing a police officer as a
result of a December incident
and the youth was fined $75
and $35 for consuming alcohol
while under age.
Albert and Tula Robinson'of
Vanastra were fined a total of
$200 for operating an establish-
ment when ordered to close by
the Huron County Health Unit.
The couple were found to have
broken a law under the Public
Health Act as a result of a
December incident.
A parade of under age
drinkers were in court last
week and many were fined. Or-
dered to pay $35 and costs were
