Winners were Peggy Jones, left who won the junior girls' free style and teamed with Carolyn Wood to win the junior dance; Terris Garrow and Cheryl Flynn who won the novice dance; Mary Anne Cummings and Jane Symons, who won the senior dance and Chris Baker, who won the junior boys' free skate, (News—Record photo). Members of Unit One of the United Church Women ser.• ved lunch and the meeting followed, At one p.m. Pastor Alfred Fry was in charge of the meeting and Opened it with the scripture reading from Psalm 46, followed by prayers. The minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read by Norman McDowell in the absence of the church secretary, Keith Arthur. Two elders elected to retire in 1980 were Mr. Ronald Hallam and and Mr. Pero' Youngblut. Four stewards a p- pointed to retire in 1977 were Orval McPhee, Norman Wight- man, Elliott Lapp and Dana Bean. Due to the fact that Henry Brindley had moved, his name was taken off the Trusteeboard of Gordon Gross, Maurice Bean, Percy Youngblut and Robert Armstrong. The church treasurer appOin- ted was Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and M.&S. treasurer was Mrs. Donald Haines. Keith Arthur was again elected secretary of the church. Mrs. Oliver Anderson was appointed to the flower fund due to the resignation of Mrs. Torrance Tabb. Mr. Ken- neth McDougall was asked to remain as captain of the ushers. Misses Brenda Ball and Nancy Anderson were appointed church auditors. Mr. Ronald Hallam was again elected Sun- day school superintendent. Other business was discussed and reports received. Pastor Fry thanked all committees of the church who made it possible to enjoy a splendid year both financially and spiritually. A vote of thanks was extended to Pastor and Mrs. Fry for their spiritual guidance. Mr. Ron Hallam also voiced his appreciation. Pastor Fry closed the meeting with the benediction. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Liver- more, Robbie and Donald of CONGREGATIONAL MEETING The Annual Congregational meeting of Hensall United Church was held Wednesday evening. Following a delicious pot luck supper, Grace Drum- mond very ably conducted some humorous contests. Slides and some movies taken at various times throughout the year were shown and enjoyed. Rev. Beck opened the meeting by reading scripture from St, John, and told the story that the Bible tells, followed by prayer. A few moments of silence was held for the sixteen members who had passed away this past year. The annual reports were handed, out awl reviewed. Hamilton spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs, Donald Haines, Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Allen received a note of thanks from, Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Mrs. Trudeau and sons for the letter of congratulations . they sent on the birth of their second son being on the date of their both wedding anniversary. Prize winners at the weekly euchre party were: high lady, Mrs, George Millian; low lady, Mrs. Duncan MacKay; high man, Mr. Maitland Allen; low man, Steven Chamney and novelty prize winner was Mrs. Frances Clark. Congratulations are due to a former Auburn resident, Jeff Craig for his achievement in playing hockey with the Elder- ton-Lucan Jets. They.won both games recently at Reno, Nevada, Jeff is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Craig of Lucan, formerly of Auburn and grandson of William J. Craig. added to the Church board to serve on different committees: Doug Cook, Edison Forrest, Rev, Cliff Britton, Deanna Brock, David Brock, Ross Cor- bett, Margaret Kinghorn, Jack Simmons, Lorne Hay, Doug Shirray and Jack Drysdale. Ian McAllister expressed the thanks of the congregation to Rev. and Mrs. Back for the past year and a gift of appreciation was presented to them by Elva Forrest. Rev. and Mrs. Back replied most graciously and the meeting closed with the singing of "God be with you till we meet again" led very ably by, Harry Horton. Mr. Brown ser- ved as the Liberal member for Brantford and Brant Con- stiluency under four Prime Ministers and later as County Court Judge of Norfolk County. His wife is the former Elizabeth Eedy of St. Marys. Among those present at this service was the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, in whose office James Brown Commen- ced the practice of law at Bran- tford. Horticultural Society to plan book A meeting of the Clinton Horticultural Society executive• was held on Thursday, January 31 in the board room of the Agriculture office. Committees were chosen for this year's activities which in- clude the year book, flower shows in June and August, a booth at the Clinton' Spring Fair and the upcoming bus trip to the O'Keefe Centre flower show on March 7.
