Clinton News-Record, 1974-01-24, Page 15Do you remember? BY JABEZ RANDS (As part of Clinton's upcoming Centennial next year, fabez Rands of Clinton is writing a weekly column about the history of Clinton.) Do you remember when the milkman came with milk in large cans? When the milkman came around in those days, he did not have the milk packaged in nice neat bottles or cartons, but carried it around in large cans in a large wooden box on his cart. He would bring in to the houses from his cart, a medium- sized can with a pouring spout on it and with his standard pint measurer, he would pour out the quantity of milk you required and then pour it into your pitcher or small milk pail. Some of the milkmen that come to mind are George Pickett, Fred Cook, M.T. Churchill, E. Blacker, Bob Cree, and Jack Cree, All these men are now deceased. -photo, by Food Bisset GOOD—LEPPINGTON Educational program planned for dairymen Three educational meetings Equipment, sanitation, and for , Huron County dairymen', milking procedure 'wilt be, have been organized 'to take major topics. place in the Londesboro Com- , Dr. Hacker of the Animal munity Hall during February. and Poultry Science Depart- The first meeting on ment of the University of February 6, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 Guelph, along with resource p.m. will feature Dairy Herd people from the Surge Equip- Management, Ross owns and ment Company will be taking manages Huron County's top part. Contributing to this vast work is the local• congregation in this area. It is one of 31,850 such congregations in over 208 different lands of the world. • Not content with maintaining this level but ever pushing ahead to greater activity, the Witnesses assemble from time to time in large conventions for the purpose of receiving advan- ced training in their ministry.
